What to Expect
This tour will allow you to uncover Melbourne’s unique indigenous significance and allow you to hear the stories behind some of the city’s main attractions. As you meander through the Royal Botanic Gardens, you will learn about the ancestral lands of the Kulin nation and understand how the native flora was used by the First Peoples for food, tools and medicine.

As you then travel to Melbourne’s eclectic culinary hotspot, Gertrude Street, you will have the chance to experience these native flavours for yourself. You enjoy an indigenous feast for the senses at Charcoal Lane, a social enterprise restaurant where fine dining with native ingredients is driven by an inspiring project to provide young people, including many Aboriginals with opportunities to excel in hospitality. Your lunch will help to support this very worthwhile program.

The next stop is Melbourne Museum, located in the beautiful Carlton gardens. You will experience the Bunjilaka Aboriginal Cultural Centre and learn about the diversity of Australia’s First Peoples, through the art and stories passed down across generations. The final stop on your indigenous journey will be to Federation Square, now a striking modern public space that celebrates Melbourne’s cultural diversity, but is historically significant to the Kulin nation where their confederacy of Aboriginal peoples lived for thousands of years. Be inspired by the square’s unique design and plethora of exhibitions, shops, cafes and galleries. You have the option of visiting the Ian Potter Center, a major gallery exclusively showcasing Australian art, a place for you to reflect on Melbourne’s rich past.
