What to Expect
Explore the floating markets, villages, and rural landscape of the Mekong Delta on a 2-day tour, and stay in a family home to learn more about the everyday lives of the locals.
Day 1: Saigon - Cai Be - Homestay in Vinh Long (L,D)
Transfer to Cai Be town, about 100 miles (160 kilometers) southwest of Saigon, stopping en route to see some typical farms and rice fields. Upon arrival at Cai Be, cruise the Tien Giang River to Binh Hoa Phuoc Island, and visit a rice-paper making workshop and rice crisp factory.
Take a short walk around a Coconut Candy factory to learn how to make candy before sailing down a small canal to a house that is more than 100 years old. Get an overview of how Mekong houses are decorated as you walk along village roads, and visit a typical house and guava garden. Listen to traditional “Don Ca Tai Tu” music and enjoy lunch at a local restaurant.
In the late afternoon, you can bike around the island by yourself or explore the neighborhood to meet the locals. Dinner will be served at the house where you will stay overnight.
Day 2: Vinh Long - Saigon (B,L)
After breakfast, explore the village at leisure. Say goodbye to your hosts and sail back along the Mekong canals and waterways to connect with your road transfer back to Saigon. En route, you will stop at the vibrant floating market of Vinh Long. Break for lunch on the drive to Saigon, arriving in the city in the afternoon.
