Medellin Hidden gems

We loved the energy and knowledge of our guide and driver Sara. She shared a ton of information about Colombia, Medellin and the life of Colobians. Sara was an impressive driver up the very steep and narrow road leading to the cacao estate. When we arrived she acted as an interpreter between us and the hosts and also assisted in all activities. We appreciated the special warmth of our hosts and farm owners Efrem, Alicia and Sandra. We appreciated the special care shown by them in offering us antimosquito soap. We were also offered drinks and fruit as welcome gesture. Sandra and Sara took us on a short trip with a bit of climbing to a cacao grove where we learned about the 3 different cacao tree species grown on the estate and picked a few ripe cacao fruits. When we returned we were shown the stages of preparing the cacao paste from which we made our own chocolates. At the end we relaxed drinking hot cacao and watching the many beautiful birds of the area and the fantastic scenery.
