Highlights of Cochin: Group Tour from Cochin Port

Highlights of Cochin: Group Tour from Cochin Port

You will be picked up from Kochi Port Ships Berth and transfered to Fort Kochi to visit your first stop, the Chinese Fishing Nets. Introduced by traders from the court of Kublai Khan in the 14th century, Kochi fishermen still use the fishing nets to earn their livelihoods. Continue your stroll down to St. Francis Church, the oldest European church in India. The church was constructed in 1503 by Portuguese friars and is now the burial place of Vasco da Gama, a Portuguese explorer who led the first ships that sailed directly from Europe to India. Next you will visit Santa Cruz Basilica, one the largest and most impressive churches in India. The church has two soaring spires and a bright, white-washed exterior. Inside, you will find walls decorated with frescoes, murals, and large paintings depicting scenes from the life of Jesus Christ. Stop at Local Laundry or Dhobi Khanna. Later, visit the Mattancherry Palace, built by the Portuguese and presented to the Raja of Kochi in 1555. The palace is famous for its stunning murals portraying scenes from Hindu tales, such as the Ramayana and Mahabharata. Next door is the Paradesi Synagogue, the oldest active synagogue in South India. Admire the ornate brass pulpit, the Belgian glass chandelier, and hand-painted Chinese porcelain floor tiles. Before the tour is concluded, you can wander around Jew Town and Jewish Synagogue, a central location for the spice trade and inhale the aroma of ginger, cardamom, turmeric, and cloves. If your schedule allows, you can also do some shopping for spices, handicrafts, and antiques, or have a casual lunch. When the tour ends, you will be transferred back to Kochi Port to board your cruise on time.

Cochin is a fascinating place: full of charm, history, rich diversity, cultural heritage and architectural interest - and this tour brought it all to life. We were privileged to spend 3 very enjoyable hours with our intelligent, informed and personable guide, Shaji; whose knowledge of Kerelan history, and of the political and economic shifts that have created this fascinating port and its architectural landscape, shone through our tour and was characterised by great humour and warmth. It was a hot and sticky day and he paced our time together to ensure that we were able to have, as he said, 'a good slow walk'. We still covered a good amount of ground; he included tuk tuk transport to cover the larger distances and was very solicitous to check if we were OK or needed a break for washrooms, refreshments etc. It was a joyful afternoon and a brilliant introduction to this lovely island. We thoroughly recommend this tour. Thank you.

Zakki’s TukTuk Tour was hands down the best way to explore Fort Kochi! From the moment we hopped into his tuk-tuk, Zakki’s personality and local knowledge made the experience truly special. He took us to hidden gems we would have never found on our own—charming streets, spice markets, historic sites, and even a few off-the-beaten-path spots that felt like secrets shared by a local friend. The ride was smooth, the pacing perfect, and Zakki went above and beyond to ensure we had an amazing time, even buying snacks and drinks for us. Zakki also recommended a great place for a massage and places to shop. Highly recommended! 🛺✨

I had an amazing tuk-tuk tour with a guide named Zakki in Kochi. We visited several great places, and Zakki was very patient, giving me as much time as I needed at each stop. He was willing to make photos of me becouse I’m a solo traveler. I felt super comfortable and at ease throughout the tour. He also offered me water and coconut water, which was a nice touch. It was a fantastic experience, and I highly recommend it!

We had an excellent tour of Kochi. Asad our guide was very informative and helpful and I would highly recommend him.

Suhail was informative and accommodating. He answered my questions, and was a competent driver! Highly recommended.
