The Great Zimbabwe Day Trip – from Harare The ruins of Great Zimbabwe bear a unique testimony to the lost civilization of the Shona tribe, between the 11th and 15th centuries. The ruins are the second largest ruins in Africa after the Pyramids of Egypt, and the largest South of the Sahara. Great Zimbabwe National Monument is approximately 40 km from Masvingo Town. • Mode of Transport from Harare: Road • Distance: Approximately 338km one way (approx. 4hrs). • Time of Departure: Duration of tour (going and return): 12-13hrs Depart Harare 0600hrs. Arrive in Masvingo approx. 10:00hrs. we stop briefly in Masvingo for refreshments. We drive to the monument approx. 40 km. We can go straight to the Monument on arrival or have lunch first, at Great Zimbabwe hotel just a km away from the ruins. Special rate for Zimbabwean Residents only: Explore the vast genuine wilderness of the Zambezi National Park in Zimbabwe which has two main game-viewing sections and thus the Zambezi (National Park) River Game Drive, with an extensive network of roads along the river accessed through the main gate of the Park, The roads are in reasonable condition, but please note that they do close the park after heavy rains. . Savannah Adventures leaves 30 minutes before all other Safari companies in Victoria Falls. Why? We want to offer our guests the opportunity to be there first before all others get there, and this way have a chance to see more wildlife. Zambezi National Park together with Victoria Falls National Park cover an area of 56,000 hectares. Using an open four-wheel-drive vehicle, the game drive allows the guests to discover many interpretations of the bush and all its inhabitants, related to them by our suitable trained and qualified guides. When we reach the national park entrance , the guide will handle the formalities and do the official briefing once inside the park. After the briefing, we continue with our drive and a wide variety of larger mammals may be found within the Zambezi National Park including elephants, lions buffalo and leopard. In addition, herds of different antelopes and different species of game can be viewed. However the park is not a fenced area as the animals are always on the move meaning to say its all about being at the right place , at the right time. Its not a Zoo but a game of luck. The Zambezi river is also home to over is 75 species of fish and is famous for its bream and tiger fish As we continue with the drive, upstream along the Zambezi River Drive, there are 25 numbered sites where we will use one of these sites to take a break, have a light snack and stretch our legs after a long drive. The morning safari sets off at 0600hrs and a light breakfast of muffins, fruits, hard boiled eggs, tea/coffee and mineral waters are served. The afternoon safari departs at 1500hrs and soft drinks, beer, mineral waters and a snack platter are offered. These sites are attractively situated on the banks of the river and sheltered beneath the beautiful shady trees like the Natal Mahogany. Our game drives last between three and four hours in duration. Please kindly note that our rainy season is from November to April and that the weather patterns can directly influence game viewing opportunities. Heavy rains could result in bad road conditions and cause the wildlife to disperse.
