Overview
Journey back to prehistoric times on a tour of Santa Lucía in Gran Canaria and learn about the indigenous peoples of the island. See the cave dwellings of the Guanche aborigines, enjoy lunch in a cave restaurant and explore the old town of Agüimes.
What to Expect
Explore the indigenous history of Gran Canaria and the Guanche people, the Berber aboriginals thought to have inhabited the Canary Islands from around 1000 BC. Depart between 09:00 and 09:50, depending on the location of your hotel, and travel inland to Santa Lucía, where you will visit the cave fortress where the last Guanche king was defeated and died.

Benefit from the services of a professional guide and learn how the king's army fought against the Castilian conquerors. Take souvenir photos of the archaeological site, and get stunning views of the canyons and volcanic craters. Learn about the local farm produce of Santa Lucía, and enjoy lunch in a cave restaurant.

Next, go to the old town of Agüimes, built on the site of an indigenous town. Admire the traditional rural architecture, and enjoy some free time to explore the town center at your own pace. Learn more about the area at the Agüimes History Museum and visit an aloe vera farm to discover how the plant is grown and turned into products said to be beneficial for people’s health and life improvement.
