What to Expect
Explore the western bank of the Nile River and visit the cities of Edfu and Kom Ombo. After pick-up at your hotel, set off on the journey to Edfu. Along the way, admire the interesting sights of Egyptian villages and towns and enjoy the view of the Nile Valley.
Start with a visit to the majestic Temple of Edfu. The cult temple is considered very well preserved and was built out of sandstone between 237 and 57 BC. At this site dedicated to the falcon-headed god Horus, it is said that the gods avenged the murder of his father Osiris. Learn all about the great Horus and admire the large granite statue in the main courtyard as well as the statues of the gods and pharaohs at the entrance. Explore this holy place and learn more about the important gods of ancient Egypt.
Afterwards, visit the Temple of Kom Ombo, which was built during the reign of the Ptolemies and expanded under the Romans and is situated on the banks of the Nile River. Large parts of this temple were destroyed by earthquakes but the ruins are still spectacular. Two entrances created in honor of the falcon god Haroeris and the crocodile-headed deity Sobek are unique to this historical temple.
Hear the story of Kom Obo and enjoy the drive back to Marsa Alam. Lunch in a restaurant is included during the tour.
