Full description
Departure Marrakech on a small group tour, and experience the green oasis of the Palmeraie from the top of a camel. Located on the fringes of the city, the Marrakech Palmeraie is the perfect place for a scenic camel ride and to watch the sunset at the end of the day. Get an introduction to your camel and learn how these hardy animals have been used as transport in Morocco for centuries thanks to their ability to travel long distances without water. After a safety briefing, put on the provided nomadic costume, including a sheish (turban) to protect you from the sun. Then, climb into the saddle and ride through the verdant palm grove for 30 minutes. Stop at a Berber house to experience the everyday life of the local people, and get a welcome snack and mint tea. Then, it's on your camel again to experience a beautiful sunset as the sky changes color through the trees. Once your ride is complete, travel back to Marrakech city center and get dropped off at your original pick-up point.

This was a fabulous experience. Abdel was an excellent guide, collecting us from an agreed location near our riad and regaling us with interesting information about Marrakech and Morocco as we drove out to the camels and back. The ride itself wasn't particularly bumpy and so was much more relaxing than I anticipated. The mint tea, bread and olives provided in the break were very welcome. The guys with the camels were super helpful and the animals seemed well-looked after, as described. The team had of course timed it perfectly so that the return ride captured the dessert sunset. And we were followed all the way by the young camels who followed their mothers into the dessert and back. All round superb.

This was a blast. Our guide was on time at the pick-up spot and was entertaining, giving a lot of behind-the-scenes info of what life in Morocco is like. The ride to the camels was simple (and air-conditioned). Upon arrival, the camels were lined up, including a baby named Scooby Doo! The guides wrapped is us in the traditional Berber clothing, put us on the camels, and we were quickly on our way. They walked alongside us, taking photos with our mobile phones (amazing shots at that) and making small talk. We arrived at a small Berber settlement (the half-way point), whereupon we had mint tea and snacks. After about a 20-minute rest, we were back on the camels for the return leg to the minivan. It was sunset so the light was intensely beautiful, and they even let Scooby Doo off his leash and he ran around kicking and yelling, it was incredibly cute. Highly recommend!

Our tour guides picked us up on time, gave us some water and talked about the history of where we were going. The camel ride was so fun and the stop for some snacks and tea were delicious. The sunset was spectacular and our camels seemed happy to carry us around. Such a fun experience. Thank you again!!
