  • Learn the fascinating history behind the Koutoubia Mosque, Bahia Palace, and Jemaa el-Fna square
Full description

Enjoy a private, half-day excursion through bustling Marrakech begins after meeting your guide in front of the Café de France, an iconic landmark on Marrakech’s main square.

Discover the majesty and vibrancy of Marrakech’s medina, beginning with a jaunt across the Jemaa el-Fnaa square to the Koutobia Mosque. Gaze at the mosque’s massive minaret, the largest in Marrakech, as your expert guide informs you of the stunning building’s history.

Onwards, you’ll head towards the Saadian Tombs, sealed for centuries until their rediscovery in 1917. Marvel at the ornate carvings in a Hispano-Moorish style that frame the crypts of the 16-century royal family.

Afterwards, head to the equally ornate Bahia Palace, a 19th-century royal dwelling intended to be the most splendid palace of its time. Gaze at the elaborately-painted ceilings, manicured gardens replete with fruit trees, and elaborate stucco patterns adorning almost every surface of the building.

To cap the tour off, you’ll wander through the buzzing souks, with their wide array of local artisans and craftspeople, your guide showing you insider tips about the best stalls.

The tour ends back at the Jemaa el-Fnaa square, where hundreds of locals meet every day to enjoy the storytellers, musicians, snake charmers, acrobats, jugglers, and performers of each and every sort.

The tour provided a nice history of Marrakech, with several stops along the walking tour for additional context and education. Due to the recent earthquake, two of the places on the tour were not available to see, but it felt like a complete tour with the education part. Our guide was prompt and friendly, with good humor. He kept the tour strictly to the history and education and did not try to veer off for any shopping suggestions at all, which was appreciated. I would recommend it. Great value.

Charif was our tour guide and it ended up being a private walking tour with me and my sister. The earthquake had just happened the night before and we booked a tour with charif in hopes of being able to safely walk around Marrakech at this time. Sadly many sites were closed for safety reasons. The quaran school was open and some of the souks were open as well. We walked all around the city and viewed much devastation but charif made our experience so great. Despite not being able to see everything our tour was perfect and charif even helped us get good prices! He knows which souks and shops are the best quality and prices! I would highly recommend this tour. Great historical context and just the right amount of information. Today was a rough time for the people of Marrakech and we can’t thank charif enough for taking the time to make sure we had a great day.

Our tour with Abdul was excellent. He was very knowledgeable, friendly and funny. Kept us tottally captivated for hours, Explained all the history of the Palace, the tombs and the mosque along with the countries and city's history. He took us down all the side streets gave us confidence to explore it on our own which we later did. Go Abdul go!!
