Full description

Sleep beneath the desert stars at a Berber campsite on an unforgettable dunes experience from Marrakech. Visit UNESCO-listed Ait Ben Haddou, the Valley of the Roses, and Tinghir. Stop at traditional Berber villages around the Todra Gorge and trek with a camel through the Erg Chebbi dunes, the highest in Morocco

Day 1: Marrakech - Tinghir

Your shared 3-day desert tour from Marrakech to Merzouga will start early in the morning. Head to Ait Benhaddou through the Tizi Ntichka pass and the high Atlas Mountains. Make many stops along the way. Visit the UNESCO World Heritage Kasbah Ait Benhaddou, which also served as a set for various Hollywood blockbusters. Continue to Ouarzazate and Kasbah Taourirte before lunch. In the afternoon, drive to Tinghir via the Valley of the Roses before you reach your hotel located in Tinghir. Dinner and overnight.

 Day 2: Tinghir – Merzouga

After breakfast at your hotel in Tinghir, your journey will start today with a drive along the road of 1001 Kasbah to the Oasis of Tinghir, where you will deviate to a minor road driving along the river to Todra canyons

After some time at leisure to enjoy the immensity of the huge cliffs, and lunch at a local café (at your leisure), continue early in the afternoon to Erfoud, famous for its date market, and a starting point of the ancient trading caravans crossing the Sahara desert to Tombouctou.

Continue to Merzouga driving through some rocky desert landscape. Upon arrival at the edge of Erg Chebbi dunes, meet your camel caravan, and ride your camels through the amazing color-changing dunes with the sunset on the horizon as a backdrop. Reach your Sahara Desert camp, nestled in the middle of nowhere just before darkness.

After some time to admire the dunes and the surrounding landscapes, get ready for a Moroccan dinner served under the stars next to a campfire. Late at night, enjoy Berber music with the local hosts playing drums

Day 3: Merzouga – Marrakech

After an early breakfast and a camel ride back to the main road, meet your driver and head back to Marrakech. Enjoy lunch on the road as you pass the Valley of Roses, and continue through the high atlas mountains to Marrakech. Finish your desert tour in Marrakech around 8 PM.

Nice organized trip with people from all over Europe, young group of people. Bus ride long, but you are prepared for that. Drivers drive fast. Sufficient stops and trips, sometimes with a guide to explain something about history, etc. Lunch not included, so we brought our own food, but it is expected to eat at a local restaurant that is made by tourists. Luxury camp booked for extra desert feeling, because it is not within walking distance of civilization. The difference is that the tent is 1.5 hours with the dromedary from the drop-off and your breakfast is at your camp (instead of again at the earlier drop-off point).

We were in mini van for 12 people, it was clean and comfortable. Our driver (Mohamed said) was nice and accommodating to our needs, stopping at banks, toilets, farmacias or whatever we needed. He drived very safe. There were other mini vans going and stopping at the same places to eat and for breaks with set menu restaurants (expensive for Morocco standards €10-€13 without drinks) but these type of restaurants can accommodate large group of people (we were over 100 travelers going to the same place) and convenient if you want to pay with credit cards and euros. If you don’t want to pay much to eat just walk to the restaurant next to it and you can eat for €3-€5 without drink. The first night stayed in a nice big 4 star hotel. The food was good and the second night we stayed in tents of 4 beds each. I liked the experience and recommended it.

Highly recommended!! They were great days. I went with a friend and on the tour they brought us together with more people, there were 8 of us at the end and we all got along very well. The driver Laarbi Elaallaoui very friendly and great driving also despite the chaos that is the city at the traffic level. I was a little scared because there are many hours by car and I get dizzy easily but I didn't get dizzy any day. Something negative to comment would be that the meals are not included in the purchase price and it is the guides or driver who take you to the restaurant without being able to choose which one (also for going all together and not losing the group since several groups come together and there were quite a few of us ), although they were well priced and the food was very tasty.
