Benefit from pick-up at your hotel, if located outside the medina, and then make your way to the Ranch de Diabat, approximately 3 kilometers south of the city center. Benefit from a horse ride that can be adapted to your equestrian skills and ride at a gentle pace if your are a beginner, or gallop on the endless beaches if your are more advanced. First, head towards the river with your faithful companion and discover the ruins of the old palace of the sultan Mohammed III, who revived the fortunes of the city when he invited Jews and the English to trade there. Take a 10-hour trip to Essaouira from Marrakech and spend time in the laid-back fishing town. On route, stop to visit an Argan Women’s Co-operative to see the women at work extracting oil from argan nuts, and then continue your journey westward. Essaouira is fortunate to have an excellent climate, with cooling sea breezes in the summer (also good for water sports) and warming lowland air in winter. This lovely climate, together with its beautiful Portuguese architecture, has always attracted artists and poets, but it continues to be a traditional fishing port at its heart to this day. Essaouira is the perfect destination for a day trip away from the hectic activity of Marrakech, with a vast array of things to do and try including: shopping in the souks for leatherwork, metalwork, glazed pottery, jewelry, brightly colored carpets, original art, olives, spices, rare argan oil and more. Learn about understanding the waves and how to catch the right wave at the optimum moment for good surf. Then it’s time to work on your posture and stance to extend your ride on the board. If you’ve already got some surf experience, the lesson will be tailored to your level. Explain to your instructor the level of surf experience you have and then focus on your objectives for the session to perfect your skills. For the 4 hour course, you will have 2 hours in the morning followed by 2 hours in the afternoon with a break for lunch and relax in-between.

This full-day activity is suitable for horse riders of all abilities, from beginner to advanced. Starting from the Ranch de Diabat, your guide will take you on a route that first runs along the river. Stop to see the ruins of the Black Sultan’s palace before riding along a sandy beach. Admire the views of the Portuguese castle on the island of Mogador. Riders of intermediate or advanced ability will have the option of a longer tour, heading a bit inland. After a picnic lunch at noon, you’ll ride along the sand dunes, past fishermen’s cottages, and to a fresh water spring. The tour continues through a forest and then returns to the ranch. The pace of the tour will be adapted according to your preference and ability.

Depart from your Marrakesh accommodations at 8:00 am and enjoy the sights on the way to Essaouira. After a lunch break, you get to explore the city with your guide and check out the fishing port, Scala and the old town with its Thuya wood workshops.  Depart Essaouira at approximately 4:00 pm and enjoy the beauty of the drive back to Marrakesh.

If desired, you can stop tasting Argan oil a small Women’s cooperative where Argan oil is extracted. This oil is very famous for its uses in the kitchen and especially in the field of cosmetics. We will stop again after a couple of kilometers further, there is a panoramic view of Essaouira, a small blue and white town reminiscent of the Breton port cities. Once you arrive at the port, You are free to make your own visit of the old Medina of Essaouira, and get lunch where ever you want.
