Full description

Discover the edge of the Sahara Desert on a three-day budget tour from Marrakech, and explore the dramatic landscapes of the Dades Valley and Kasbah of Ouarzazate. Ride across the dunes of Erg Chebbi by camel and sleep at a desert camp under the stars.

Day 1: Marrakech - Ait Ben Haddou - Dades

Begin your journey by crossing the High Atlas Mountains past one Berber village after another to the UNESCO world heritage site of Ait Ben Haddou. This village is famous for its kasbah and fortified village and has been used as a set for some famous Hollywood epics and magazine photo shoots.

After some leisure time, enjoy lunch in a local restaurant and continue your drive through Ouarzazate, known as the Gate of the Sahara. Continue to Boumalne Dades, admiring the scenic drive along the Dades Valley, where you can enjoy dinner and rest for the night at Kasbah Amazigh or Hotel Chems.

Day 2: Dades - Todgha Gorges - Merzouga

Following breakfast, depart your hotel and drive to Tinghir and its dramatic Todgha Gorges, pausing for some free time to explore the canyons. Enjoy lunch at a local cafe and continue to Merzouga to meet your camel caravan.

Experience the Erg Chebbi dunes on camelback and watch the sunset set. Reach your desert camp before nightfall and enjoy an authentic Moroccan dinner under the stars. Local nomads will provide entertainment and show you how to play the traditional Tam Tam drums. Enjoy dinner and an overnight stop.

Day 3: Merzouga Ouarzazate - Marrakech

Following an early wake-up to watch the sunrise before breakfast (optional), a driver will be waiting to pick you up for the transfer back to Marrakech. Stop halfway for lunch at a local restaurant. Get dropped off at your original departure point or Djemaa El Fna around 8 PM.

You can also book upgrades for the night in the Bedouin camp such as the deluxe desert camp with a luxury private tent complete with an ensuite shower, bathroom facilities, and 5-star amenities. These upgrades need to be booked per person.

We were surprised by the very good organization of the trip, a lot of viewpoints, two guides, tasty breakfasts, dinners a bit worse in taste (depending on taste) minus the lunches for which we stopped in typical tourist places 100-120 dirham for the dinner alone, where at this price you can eat in Marrakesh much cheaper, tastier and better. Overall, my brother and I were very pleased with the trip and I think it costs what it is supposed to cost. I will not elaborate, an interesting and worth living experience, especially the night in the desert. Greetings to our driver Aguima - smiling all the time, joyful, organized and talkative. I recommend this trip to everyone, but it requires a bit of effort and I recommend going on it rested and in full strength because otherwise the first day you will be tired because it is intense.

GYG booked us with operator Ando Travel, who were super helpful (Aziz was our contact) and we had a fantastic time with them. Our travel group twas a lovely bunch. The entire itinerary was extremely well organised. The desert experience was definitely the highlight. We booked the standard camp and thought that was pretty luxurious in itself (private tent with double bed!). Guides were friendly and informative - they definitely add value to the visits. Only thing I would say that perhaps more time should be spent at the Toudra Gorge, instead of the valley fields. The Gorge is far more spectacular and deserves more time. Our driver Omar was brilliant - he drove us patiently and safely across the High Atlas and helped us find our drop-off hotel, which was different to the pick-up. He was always ready with a smile, even after many hours of driving. We definitely recommend this trip to anyone wishing to experience a different side to Morocco.

Had an amazing time on this trip to the desert. Everything was well organized and all of the guides were excellent. The food stops weren’t the greatest, but it isn’t a deal breaker. Youssef our driver was the best, always on time and accommodating. The views were breathtaking! Only thing to note with the luxury tent option is the extra time you get on the camels, might be too much for some. Overall, I would highly recommend this trip!!
