Full description
Discover the edge of the Sahara Desert on a 3-day budget tour from Marrakech, and explore the dramatic landscapes of the Dades Valley and Kasbah of Ourzazate. Ride across the dunes of Erg Chebbi by camel, and sleep at a desert camp surrounded by high sand dunes. Day 1: Marrakech - Ait Ben Haddou - Tinghir After an early departure from the Marrakech hotel, your journey begins by crossing the High Atlas Mountains past one Berber village after another to the UNESCO world heritage site of Ait Ben Haddou, famous for its Kasbah and fortified village, and previously used as a set for some famous Hollywood epics as well as a backdrop for some fashion magazines photo shoots. After some leisure time to explore the village with its Kasbah, enjoy lunch in a local restaurant, then continue your drive through Ouarzazate, known as the Gate of the Sahara and onto Boumalne Dades, admiring the scenic drive along the road to Tinghir, where you can enjoy dinner and an overnight stop.  Day 2: Tinghir - Todgha Gorges - Merzouga Following breakfast, depart your hotel and drive to the dramatic Todgha Gorges, pausing for some free time to explore the canyons and enjoy lunch at a local café. Continue to Merzouga to meet your camel caravan. Then, experience the Erg Chebbi dunes on camelback and watch the sunset change the color of the sand. Reach your desert camp before nightfall and enjoy an authentic Moroccan dinner under the stars. Local nomads will provide the entertainment and show you how to play the Tam Tam drums. Enjoy dinner and an overnight stop. Day 3: Merzouga Ouarzazate - Marrakech Following an early wake up to watch the sunrise before breakfast (optional), a driver will be waiting to pick you up for the transfer back to Marrakech. Stop half-way for lunch in Ouarzazate. You can also book upgrades for the night in the Bedouin camp as an optional extra. Upgrade to the deluxe desert camp with a luxury private tent complete with ensuite shower, bathroom facilities, and 5* amenities. These upgrades need to be booked per person.

Well organized. Hassle-free booking. Collection and drop to our riads/hotels. Very accomodating and helpful driver (extra thanks to Mohamed), guide, and camp hosts. Be prepared for 22 hours bus ride (8 + 4 + 10). Day 1: Atlas mountain and traditional villages. Nice scenery, a bit too much focused on movies instead of the culture, but still impressive experience. Day 2: Gorge, nomad Berber tribe, Sahara desert. I had higher expectations for the gorge, the walk and stay were too short, no hike in the area. There was a non-interesting walk in the fields instead, and a visit to a Berber house for carpet selling. Finally the highlight of the trip, camel ride at sunset, camp at the Sahara desert, Berber music around the fire under the stars, absolutely amazing experience. The luxury camp offers a private bathroom with a shower in a large tent. The basic camp comes with a small tent for 2 and a shared bathroom (good enough for 1 night). Most restaurants were disorganized and bland.

This was an opportunity of a lifetime. The driver, Mohammed was so kind and treated us well. He communicated with us, allowed us to get out and take plenty pics along the way. It was great. The hotel stay was fine. The food and drinks were great, not expensive. We saw the wonderful Kasbah as well as the movie studios. We learned a lot in Ourazazate. Our guide Ali was phenomenal. He was able to talk about things happening in America, which was a plus. The Berber home we visited was also great. We had lovely Berber Whiskey. Our guests were kind and taught us everything about rug making. The desert camp was so much fun. Riding the dromedaries was definitely bucket list! All items checked. If you book this tour, you will love it.

Great experience. Interesting spots along the way. From Marrakech, you travel past the Atlas Mountains and the road is VERY windy so if you're easily motion sick, make sure you bring some medicine. The road is long so make sure you're comfortable. We have restrooms stops so it's not bad. I went the beginning of October and had a group of 8 total out of the 17 seats that are on the van. Not sure how that will change as tourism increases, but I had an excellent group and we even met up later in our trip outside the excursion. The food at the restaurant stops were okay. Tagine was better at Marrakech. You might get tired of it since the palette was a bit bland. Overall recommend.
