Full description

Discover the edge of the Sahara Desert on a three-day budget tour from Marrakech, and explore the dramatic landscapes of the Dades Valley and Kasbah of Ourzazate. Ride across the dunes of Erg Chebbi by camel and sleep at a desert camp under the stars.

Day 1: Marrakech - Ait Ben Haddou - Dades

Begin your journey by crossing the High Atlas Mountains past one Berber village after another to the UNESCO world heritage site of Ait Ben Haddou. This village is famous for its kasbah and fortified village, and has been used as a set for some famous Hollywood epics and magazine photo shoots.

After some leisure time, enjoy lunch in a local restaurant and continue your drive through Ouarzazate, known as the Gate of the Sahara. Continue to Boumalne Dades, admiring the scenic drive along the Dades Valley, where you can enjoy dinner and rest for the night.

Day 2: Dades - Todgha Gorges - Merzouga

Following breakfast, depart your hotel and drive to Tinghir and its dramatic Todgha Gorges, pausing for some free time to explore the canyons. Enjoy lunch at a local cafe and continue to Merzouga to meet your camel caravan.

Experience the Erg Chebbi dunes on camelback and watch the sunset set. Reach your desert camp before nightfall and enjoy an authentic Moroccan dinner under the stars. Local nomads will provide entertainment and show you how to play the traditional Tam Tam drums. Enjoy dinner and an overnight stop.

Day 3: Merzouga Ouarzazate - Marrakech

Following an early wake up to watch the sunrise before breakfast (optional), a driver will be waiting to pick you up for the transfer back to Marrakech. Stop halfway for lunch at a local restaurant. Get dropped-off at your original departure point or Djemaa El Fna around 8 PM.

You can also book upgrades for the night in the Bedouin camp such as the deluxe desert camp with a luxury private tent complete with ensuite shower, bathroom facilities, and 5-star amenities. These upgrades need to be booked per person.

More than I had hoped for and expected. Definitely one of those "it's about the journey, not the destination" kinda trips. Some people might be disappointed by the actual time in the desert, but as soon as you sit on your rather uncomfortable camel you'll see why they have cut that part short. The trip takes you through the atlas mountains, and lots and lots of rocky wastelands. I have never seen this many shades of dirt, and I mean that in the best possible way. The Moroccan landscape is stunning. Would have loved to spent more time in the desert myself. It's a weird humbling, grounding experience. The travel company ANDO (you are booking with via GYG) does their job a lot better than other local companies from what I heard from other travelers. PS. You do need to add at least another 35 euro to your trips personal budget for lunch (3x ~120 MAD), and bring change for toilet breaks (2-4 MAD every single time). Still, the experience is totally worth it.

My boyfriend and I thoroughly enjoyed this 3 day tour. Yousef was a fantastic driver- very reassuring and professional. Although little time was actually spent in the desert, sunset and sunrise was breathtaking and one we will remember forever. I will be honest and say it is ALOT of driving (random stops to rug shops, canyons, fields, etc) but I guess this is to break up the driving. Ben Ait was also interesting (where game of thrones, gladiator and Indiana Jones was filmed) - Mohammed the tour guide was lovely and funny. Be prepared for slightly expensive lunches and budget for tips. But on the whole I think the standard camp is reasonably priced. Deffo recommend! ❤️

This trip was absolutely amazing and 100% worth the cost. Yousef was our driver and he was wonderful. We made plenty of stops along the way to take in the sights - it never felt like we spent all day in a minibus. We got to see so many things and learn so much about the Berber and Moroccan cultures. We did the luxury Sahara camp upgrade - the camp was located several miles into the desert. We camel trekked there, stopping for the sunset, and had a wonderful evening at camp with very comfortable accommodations. I can't recommend Ando Travel and this excursion enough - it was an amazing once-in-a-lifetime experience!
