Full description

Live the life of a Berber on a 2-day desert safari to Zagora and the Draa Valley from Marrakech. Experience the shifting sand dunes on the back of a camel, sleep under a canopy of stars, and follow in the footsteps of Hollywood royalty on a visit to the world heritage village of Ait Ben Haddou.

Day 1: Marrakech - Zagora

Following an early morning pickup from your hotel or riad in Marrakech, drive across the High Atlas Mountains en route to Ouarzazate, where you will stop for lunch at your leisure.

Continue to the oasis of Agdez, before driving through the date and palm trees of the Draa Valley. Marvel at the fortified Kasbahs along the way. Upon arrival at Zagora, meet your camel caravan and ride a camel over the sand dunes as you watch the sunset paint the desert sands.

Then, transfer to your Sahara Desert camp just before dark. Settle into your private tent, and enjoy some free time to explore the surrounding desert scenery. Dinner will be served under the stars while your nomad hosts entertain you around a campfire with the beat of their tamtam drums.

Day 2: Zagora - Marrakech

Wake early to experience the magic of a desert sunrise (optional). Then, enjoy breakfast before climbing back into the saddle of your camel for the ride back to the main road.

Here, your minibus will be waiting to take you on a scenic drive to the world heritage village of Ait Ben Haddou. Instantly recognizable as the setting of various Hollywood epics, it’s also a popular backdrop for photo shoots with international fashion magazines and agencies.

Explore the Kasbah at leisure, with some free time for lunch, before the picturesque drive back to Marrakech.

It was a great experience overall. For sure it was anything but boring: included multiple activities and locations that made it unique, authentic and exciting. The only things that I would change if I could are: 1. Very long ride from/to Marrakesh and the final destination. And while we always stopped for breaks and/or to visit different towns, I'd say it would have been much better if it was closer. (total travel time with stops was more than 6 hours - maybe 7 or 8). 2. Camel rides were a tiny bit long. The idea was extremely exciting! I couldn't wait to get on a camel! Once I got there, it was a bit uncomfortable and I somehow wished it was a bit shorter.

Fantastic experience to do absolutely if you are in Morocco. We travel across the Atlas and the desert, passing through old cities that have now become film sets and small towns. New, clean and fresh 15-person van. Long and fun camellate. Comfortable night in the desert (WC, electricity, internet available). Good dinner and breakfast. Best thing: Mohamed the driver. A person in love with his land available and kind, always ready to give advice or notions on what you will see. Worst thing: the restaurant where you have lunch on the first day (too touristy)

Very cool experience! After a very long bus ride from Marrakech (8-10 hours) you will be dropped off at the edge of the desert. After watching the sunset you will drive to the tented camp. Very neat tents with even beds in them. The only recommendation is to bring your own towel for after showering. In the evening the residents of the camp create atmosphere through music which is very cozy
