Full description
On this 1-day tour from Marmaris you will visit Pamukkale, known as the 8th Wonder of the World. Meaning “cotton castle” in Turkish, this natural formation contains hot springs and travertine, terraces of carbonate minerals left by the flowing water. Because of the glorious white travertine and historical value, Pamukkale was added to the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage in 1988. Pamukkale can be seen from the hills on the opposite side of the valley in the town of Denizli, 20 kilometers away. On the top of this white “castle”, which is a total of 2,700 meters long, 600 meters wide, and 160 meters high, the ancient city of Hierapolis was built. Here you can visit an ancient Roman amphitheater, the historical museum which was formerly a Turkish bath, the ancient Cleopatra swimming pool, the monumental tomb of Saint Philippe, and the most magnificent Necropolis of Anatolia.

Apart from starting at the journey really early in the morning, from 6:20 am due to the long distance travel, the tour is quite enjoyable, beautiful viewing with excellent experience on it. The coach was very comfortable and selling the cold drink on the coach with the supermarket price, very convenient and thoughtful.

Had the best day at Pamukkale, as other people have mentioned, you could spend a lot longer than 3 hours at the actual site, just to really enjoy all that is on offer. It was absolutely beautiful, not to be missed. We didn't actually have time to see the Amphitheatre as we spent too much time basking in the Cleopatra Pool. The stops along the way at the factory/textile market were fine, clearly just to break up the journey, they were only half an hour each, and a chance to stretch your legs. breakfast was very disappointing, but the lunch was good, a big buffet style spread. Our coach was full of people complaining about the extra charges, bear in mind this trip was roughly £24 per person, it was an additional £13/4 per person to enter the site, and bathe in the Cleopatra pool (this is optional, you can simply sunbathe and watch the swimmers, have a bite to eat). Hardly extortionate....

Long trip there and back for a 3 hour site time, Absolutely loved exploring Hierapolis.... what an amazing site. And the information provided around it about each area was very good. Make sure you pack good footwear. Pamukkale was quite dry at this time of the year but still very busy with tour groups, can imagine that July and August is hectic. Still very beautiful and an amazing natural wonder. Next time I go, I will hire a car so I can wander around at my own pace and not feel like I was on the amazing race.
