What People Are Saying About Marken
Apostle (sp?) was a superb guide. We so enjoyed his good nature, and his wonderful commentary. The trip covered more territory than we thought- and he remained super good company despite the fact that some of our group was less than prompt. I could not have enjoyed the trip more. I felt I learned more in half a day than I do in a couple of days on my own! Truly- a wonderful trip. I wish I could take it again. And my pictures of the day were stunning! All my friends back home are so jealous.
2 personable friendly tour guides took us on a scenic route in a VW bus stopping to visit working windmills (4 euro), clog making demonstration, cheese to taste/buy, fishing village and herring to taste if desired. Return trip by way of the wetlands with views of the dikes famous for keeping the sea water out. Both guides enthusiasticly shared historical points along the route. Surprise stop to share a glass of Bols a traditional Dutch beverage. Our 5 hr tour was actually 5.5 hours, an additional bonus on a delightful sunny day. The pick up location at Cafe De Pont is easily accessed by the free Ferry from the back of Central Train Station every couple of minutes. Well worth the money for our family of four and would definitely go again.
I have to share this: These villages are so beautiful...and in this way so easy accessible. We just hopped on in Amsterdam! The atmosphere is great....not traveling with 50 people in a big coach but with an adorable classic Ford bus and a super friendly, informative guide. Our friends who didn't book this tour were super jealous when they saw our pictures and heart our stories. So I can only be positive and recommend this trip and company Experience Waterland! Many thanks!
GetYourGuide was superbly helpful when we had a trip booked during their holiday due to some technical bug. The admin helped us to request on demand for a guide despite that this trip was not operating during the Christmas holiday season. Instead of cancelling our trip, which we were totally fine, he help us to find Mariel, who was a great and super friendly, fun and exciting guide to be with to guide us through the north of holland. This place is a must go if you have an extra day in Amsterdam and would like to know more about the country's other side than city life in Amsterdam.
The cities and presentation at each site were very informative (especially the clog maker in Marken). We definitely recommend going! On a separate note, My wife and I understand that the tour runs on a tight schedule but we felt like we were being lectured about punctuality at each stop. Please note, they WILL leave you if you're not on time. During our tour, this poor woman wasnt at the meeting point in time and our bus took off without her. When some of us saw her running on the side of the road trying to catch us we yelled at the driver to stop. She ended up falling and injuring her face and hands. At the end of the day we understand that the tour runs on a tight schedule but showing a little more remorse for the injured woman would've been nice. We're all on vacation and we all just want to have a good time and see your beautiful country.
