Public night watchman tour in Mannheim: "Listen and be told...": this is how the night watchman used to walk through the city centuries ago. In the light of the lantern, Marie, the female night watchman, knows how to tell curious and scary stories from times long past. Peppered with anecdotes about the "dishonest professions", Elector Carl Theodor's court of muses, the lightning rod, the horseless carriage (automobile), "stinking air" and, of course, the night watchman's long-suffering life. With her halberd, Marie ensures peace and order and protects her companions from thieves and drunken riff-raff. The ramble through the alleyways of the former old town is a mixture of humorous anecdotes, night watchman life and events from our town's history.

Get an insight into the development of this remarkable district and the living conditions of its past and present residents. You will meet your guide, the night watchman, in front of the baroque Palace church. Together you will explore the area around Mannheim's baroque palace. Against the backdrop of historic buildings such as the old observatory or the armoury, join the night watchman for a chat about Mannheim’s development into a residence for the Palatinate Electors and the culture, society and religion that developed there throughout the 17th and 18th centuries. Listen as he reveals anecdotes about life at court, the changes to the city from one era to the next, and the not always honest goings on that he witnesses as he makes his rounds through Mannheim’s night-time streets. During the tour you will pass by several historical buildings and places such as the baroque palace church, the old observatory, the Jesuite church and Schillerplatz. Day 1: The journey starts with a scenic drive through the beautiful countryside and along the Lake of the Four Cantons to Weggis. Here you will board the aerial cable car to Rigi Kaltbad where you will board Europe‘s first ever mountain railway up to Rigi-Kulm (6000ft / 1800m). Enjoy the panoramic views over the Swiss-Midland, the Alps and the 13 lakes around you. Hike one of the well prepared trails and enjoy the beauty of this unique scenery. In the afternoon check in at Rigi Kaltbad. Spoil yourself in the new mineral bath and spa designed by famous Swiss architect Mario Botta. Dive into the revitalizing, mineral-rich waters (35°C) of the indoor and outdoor pools and enjoy the unforgettable, breathtaking mountain panorama. Further offers include a whirlpool, herbal sauna, steam bath and a spectacular crystal spa bath (admittance for adults only). In the evening culinary delights await you in the restaurant SunSet where a 4-course selection dinner is included. Day 2: The mineral bath opens exclusively for hotel guests at 9:00 AM. Around mid-day, you take the cog-wheel train down to Vitznau where you board the boat for a lovely one-hour cruise to Lucerne. Discover the charming old town and see the famous Chapel Bridge, the Jesuit Church, the town hall and the modern Culture and Convention Center.  The tour is accompanied by a professional, multi-lingual guide from Zürich to Weggis and from Lucerne to Zürich. The way up and down Mount Rigi including the overnight stay and the boat ride to Lucerne are unguided. For this part, you will receive detailed written information.
