Manaus to Santarém: 36-Hour Ferry on the Amazon

It is a very specific attraction, definitely not for everyone. The cabins are dreadful, maybe we were just unlucky with the boat we took. As it was mentioned before, the only place you can sit is in the bar, where the loud music is on all the time. It is possible to buy food on board, it costs 25 reals and it is quite good. It is good idea though to take a lot of water, other stuff - cola, beer, snacks you can buy in the bar. I am very happy with Amazon Tours, great contact with them, no problem with pick up from Santarem and drop off in Alter do Chao. It all went super smoothly. They contacted us even before we thought about contacting them. Overall I really recommend Amazon Tours, the boat as such is also worth doing as an adventure and chance to see the river and how local people and goods travel, but be aware is not a luxury cruise.

Right amount of time to experience life on the Amazon. Seeing the working river. Meeting locals on boat. Room was comfy with air conditioning. Slept well. The bathroom wasn't good. Toilet didn't flush. Food was good. Beer was cold. Definitely traveling on river time. The ferry was 5 hours late. Police search on the dock. Prearranged driver picked us at the dock and delivered us to Alter do Chao very smoothly. Wasn't Princess Cruise lines but was a good experience.

I would absolutely recommend booking with these guys. They looked after me so well from door-to-door including a 3am taxi. As a solo female traveller it felt really reassuring to have someone explain the process and help with the transfer to the boat and to my accomodation at the end.
