Full description
Take this 5-hour archaeological tour and travel back to prehistoric times at Hagar Qim, Mnajdra, and the Ghar Dalam cave and museum in Malta. Designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Megalithic Temples of Malta date back 5,500 years and are the oldest free-standing stone structures in the world. Continue to the fragile temples of Hagar Qim, located on a ridge capped in soft globigerina limestone on the southern edge of Malta. You will also explore the neighboring Mnajdra temples, which are considered possibly the best example of Maltese megalithic architecture still standing. The surrounding area is typical of Mediterranean garrigue (low level scrub) in its starkness, and has been designated as a Heritage Park. A few hundred meters from the temple you will discover the Hamrija Tower, one of the 13 watchtowers built by Grand Master Martin de Redin, one of the legendary Knights of Malta.

The guide Mario was experienced and knowledgable. Easy to listen too I was impressed with his English. For his information the rock is a limestone and there were veins of quartz. There were people on the tour convinced the colours were paintings!! A good tour I just a little disappointed out return journey was on a dilapidated bus with missing seats!

Really worth the time! Do participate on this tour especially if it’s your first time to Malta. Marc (Mark?) the guide was excellent with his explanation and he is tri-lingual (FYI). All three locations are accessible by the Hop-on-Hop-Off Southbound bus (red) BUT having a guide like Marc enhances the experience hence, not to miss out! Slight tricky part is the pickup information - for myself I received the information 1.5 hours prior to actual pickup time.Overall, shouldn’t be a hard stop. Once on the bus, everything will be breezy from there (per my experience). Itinerary was well planned and Marc is fab with his information provided at each location with his captivating storytelling style. Marc was also very professional and inclusive to the tour group by providing the explanation of each location to cater to the participants in my group in the core languages - English and Italian. Truly worth the time and the sights were beautiful!

Interesting trip, and good and enthusiastic guide. But quite annoying to be the hotel that was picked up first and dropped off last. It would have been more reasonable if on the return trip it was the reverse of the outbound trip. Then we didn't want to be someone who got a 5-hour trip (as it was advertised for), where half was pick-up and drop-off and others who got a 2 1/2-3 hour trip. Then there would actually have been more time for everyone to see and experience the sights, and that would have been nice.
