Full description
Take this 5-hour archaeological tour and travel back to prehistoric times at Hagar Qim, Mnajdra, and the Ghar Dalam cave and museum in Malta. Designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Megalithic Temples of Malta date back 5,500 years and are the oldest free-standing stone structures in the world. Continue to the fragile temples of Hagar Qim, located on a ridge capped in soft globigerina limestone on the southern edge of Malta. You will also explore the neighboring Mnajdra temples, which are considered possibly the best example of Maltese megalithic architecture still standing. The surrounding area is typical of Mediterranean garrigue (low level scrub) in its starkness, and has been designated as a Heritage Park. A few hundred meters from the temple you will discover the Hamrija Tower, one of the 13 watchtowers built by Grand Master Martin de Redin, one of the legendary Knights of Malta.

The guide Mario was experienced and knowledgable. Easy to listen too I was impressed with his English. For his information the rock is a limestone and there were veins of quartz. There were people on the tour convinced the colours were paintings!! A good tour I just a little disappointed out return journey was on a dilapidated bus with missing seats!

Actual pick up, travel & tour was good (bit rushed, but good), but finding out the pick up time was a time consuming nightmare! I emailed, whatsapp'd and finally rang the company the evening before to find out the time of our pick up as I'd heard nothing other than a GYG email saying pick up would be began 7.30 - 8.30 am. I later got a WhatsApp reply saying my pick up was 8.55am, so I'm glad I didn't get up at the crack of dawn! The email confirmation from the actual company didn't come through until 7.05am. Yes the pick up was nearly 2 hours away, but we had to get up and ready and walk to the pick up point. I was expecting contact the day before, not 2 hours before For the tour, our guide was lovely and informative, but I'd have liked a little time to wander round Haqar Qim/Mnajdra as there are walks along the cliffs & other little bits to see. A little bit of free time would have been good to use to look at your leisure. I did feel a bit rushed if I'm honest.

Our guide and driver were wonderful! We had a very informative tour that was nicely paced and allowed us to enjoy the different sights. Our guide was well educated in the history and easy to follow. We felt like the half day tour was a little rushed. We spent most of the time driving to/from and picking up/dropping off. The only big issue we had (and was a major source of headache for us) was the confirmation time and location. We messaged the tour operator twice, had GYG call them twice and we still only received pick up info 2hrs prior to our pick up time. Had I woken up 20 minutes earlier, I would've been asking for a refund because we didn't have information as promised.
