Full description

Join a tour of the historic railway known as the "Red Lightning" from Palma to Sóller. Travel through picturesque landscapes and past orange groves and almond fields through the idyllic town of Bunyola. 

Once in Sóller, continue on your way to incredible Modernist houses. Experience, not just the cultural but the culinary; sample orange crème ice cream at the world-famous "Fet-a-Sóller" cooperative. 

You can choose to take the historic tram from Sóller to Port de Sóller, payable on the day. After an approximately 25-minute ride along the beautiful beach promenade, the train ends in the center of the little city. 

Walk through this idyllic port town, stop in a cozy restaurant, and enjoy a delicious tapas meal. Then, take a comfortable minibus through the breathtaking panoramic stretch of the Tramuntana Mountains to the artists' colony of Deía.

Climb to the town's highest point for a sensational view over the heights of the Tramuntana Mountains, to the picturesque valleys, past the coast, and over the sea. After a walk, enjoy refreshments on the viewing platform of the Son Marroig country estate and find the secret of the "Ear of God".

Continue to Valdemossa past a mighty forest of holm oaks and wander the idyllic little town. Visit the excellent museum of the painter Josep Coll Bardolet and see the famous Carthusian cloister where Chopin lived and worked.

Enjoy free time to explore on your own amidst the beautiful homes surrounded by Mediterranean gardens full of orange and lemon trees.

Please go to the entrance to the "Tren de Sòller" train station where your guide will be waiting for you. The guide will be waiting for you in front of the station (street side) at Carrer Eusebio Estada 1 Street in Palma. There is no need to queue or go to the ticket office as your guide will have your tickets.

This was a magical day trip to the mountains, especially for those without a car. My tour had 6 german-speaking people and I was the only English-speaking person. Although the guide answered any question I asked, at times I felt that the German-speaking guests were getting many more tour explanations than I was. By the time he explained the point if interest in German, we had already passed it. Would have liked a lot more than 15 minutes of free time in Port Soller and need to add at least 45 minutes of free time in Deia and Valldemosa.

Our guide Michael was excellent, filling us in with the history of places, wound through with entertaining 'back stories'. Only criticism is that I went to the main station where the staff were somewhat confused about the type of trip, until they found an English speaking woman (I wish I had taken a mote of her name) who, on seeing the email I had been sent, took us direct to where Michael was waiting. So, perhaps supply the guide with mobile phone numbers of participants, just in case. This trip was the highlight of my one week stay.

Perfect and varied trip for someone with a bad knee! Probably more suitable for those travelling without small children. Really lovely guides (Michael and Julia). A great day to see the real Majorca, without having to drive yourself. Nice, also, to see some more exclusive places. Tapas lunch was excellent.
