Madrid: Nomad Immersive Museum

Madrid: Nomad Immersive Museum

More than 500 years after its creation, Leonardo da Vinci's The Last Supper continues to captivate as one of the most enigmatic and revered masterpieces in the history of art. Yet, from the moment it was completed, its fate was precarious. Breaking from the traditional fresco technique, Leonardo experimented with a blend of oil and tempera on plaster—a method that, over time, led to flaking and damage from mould. Today, only 10% of the original work survives, with the rest painstakingly restored through numerous interventions over the centuries. Housed in the refectory of the Dominican convent of Santa Maria delle Grazie in Milan, the mural is displayed at a considerable height and accessible to only a limited number of visitors at a time. Each group is allowed just 15 minutes to view the masterpiece, making it challenging to fully appreciate its intricate details. To bring this iconic work closer to a broader audience, our museum has meticulously recreated the convent’s refectory and a life-sized replica of the mural (8.80 by 4.60 meters). This extraordinary reproduction allows you to explore the details of Leonardo's original strokes and the intricate layers added by centuries of restoration. This immersive experience invites you to marvel at the Renaissance genius’s groundbreaking mastery of perspective and anatomy. Through innovative technology, you can peer beneath the surface of the painting to uncover its fascinating history—a work that remains as fleeting as it is timeless.
