  • Admire the impressive landscape
  • Trek along the cliff walls of the El Chorro Gorge
Full description

Discover the scenic beauty of the Caminito del Rey trail on a guided excursion from Málaga or from selected areas of the Costa del Sol. Traverse the El Chorro Gorge and enjoy some tapas after the hike.

Start your day with pickup by bus from different points of the Costa del Sol or Málaga and depart for Ardales. Stop for breakfast (not included) along the way at a local restaurant with plenty of typical local products. Finally, arrive at the northern access point of the Caminito del Rey. The group will then walk through a small and quite long tunnel to reach the natural path that leads to the entrance checkpoint of the Gorge.

At that point, you'll receive a helmet together with the safety instructions. Your guide will also join you to give you further explanations of what will be found during the trek but also many hints about the history of this peculiar construction. The Gorge, called Desfiladero de los Gaitanes, is a natural pass across the hills that separate the Málaga coastline from the inlands. The River Guadalhorce flows at the bottom of the gorges, after having passed through the reservoirs. El Chorro means "the Spurt": your guide will explain why. El Caminito del Rey is nowadays a rebuilt path that stretches between two gorges, canyons, and a large valley, along pathways or boardwalks. It is safe and comfortable to walk as most of the path is flat or downhill. The route goes in one direction, downwards from the north to the south.  Your bus will be waiting near the exit point, but before driving back to the Costa del Sol, you will try some local tapas from a small bar close by. Once this light lunch is over, travel back to Costa del Sol and be dropped off at your pickup point.

Our pick up arrived ahead of schedule in Malaga, though we did wait 10 minutes after our departure time for some latecomers. Our coach was modern and comfortable and our guide Alex was informative and entertaining on the journey up to the starting point. We had a bit of a wait for helmets for our group as several groups had arrived at the same time but we were on the move again probably within 15 minutes. The walk itself is at your own pace with Alex bringing up the rear of the group. The sights and scenery along the route are stunning.Arriving at the hotel at the end of the walk, the organisation was excellent. We said we were part of Alex's group and were told to take a seat and the tapas lunch would be served shortly. We ordered drinks and took them outside to sit in the sun and one of the waitresses came out to tell us when the food was ready. The food itself was excellent and more than we probably expected. All in all a brilliant day.

The whole thing is good, the trip and the instructions given by the guide on how to act on the spot. The tapas were cold (except for a portion of meat) and it would have been worth warming up with a tortilla, for example. The set was very modest and with a little improvement it would have been excellent.

The excursion was excellent. Everything went smoothly. The bus departed from where it was described. On the way there there were explanations about the Caminito del Rey in several languages. The guide Alex was incredibly nice, cool, funny and very easy to understand. Arriving at Caminito del Rey, everything went smoothly and without long waiting times. On the way itself, the guide also gave some people some additional information and you could get an answer to every question. At the end there was tapas in a restaurant, which tasted really good and also filled me up. Then we went back to Málaga (about 2 p.m.). The only things that bothered me were that you didn't know in advance how long the trip would be (didn't say so on the website) and that the Caminito del Rey itself is quite short. 55€ for it is quite expensive I think. (Normal entry is €10, train from Malaga to El Chorro is €5 each)
