A great morning out. Despite not feeling very well due to dodgy food the previous evening, it was such an engaging experience with our guide, I was able to forget the belly pain! The views are amazing and by going so early we were able to miss the crowds - no idea why buses are allowed in this area, both the vehicle size and the number of people spoils it for those seeking a bit of peace. We unfortunately missed the Golden Eagles but still saw plenty of flora and fauna and wonderful butterfly's and did I mention the views!

Me and my girlfriend had a wonderful trip up into the Biokovo mountains with the guide Darjan. He made sure we had a good time in every sense. He is caring and easy to talk to and drives very calmly so we felt safe all the way. He gave interesting information about the wildlife, some historical background and how life can be in the mountains. Darjan is also born and raised in Makarska and for us it felt good to hire a local guide. Another great thing is that there is a maximum of 6 people on this trip. Me and my girlfriend was lucky to be the only ones going that day so we had a blast. Top things on this trip: Sinjal view point. Amazing views of the sea, the islands, the mountains (including the highest peak Sveti Jure) and the small towns along the coast. Extra plus for having a glass of good wine and some candied almonds there. Another top thing was meeting the wild horses up close. They were standing right beside the road so we could just go right out and greet them.

Full description

Our journey begins in Makarska or a nearby agreed location, leading us from the coast towards the majestic peaks of Biokovo. Witness the ever-changing landscape through the windows of our jeep as we ascend towards the nature park. The route winds through an impressive forest of black pines, across rocky terrain and green fields, offering increasingly breathtaking views of the entire Makarska Riviera.

Finally, we arrive at Skywalk, an architectural marvel located at 1,228 meters above sea level. Step onto this glass horseshoe and immerse yourself in the breathtaking panoramas that unfold before and beneath you. Don’t forget to take some beautiful photos of the spectacular scenery surrounding you.

Continuing along Croatia's highest road, we reach Sinjal viewpoint, another hidden gem of Biokovo at 1,355 meters altitude. After a short walk, relax with a drink and homemade liquor while soaking in the stunning views of Split, Sveti Jure, the Makarska Riviera, and the islands of Brač, Hvar, Korčula, Mljet, Lastovo, Vis, Pelješac, and even Italy.

Following a leisurely break, our journey resumes towards our final destination, pausing to observe wild horses roaming freely in this pristine area. As we return to the coast, cherish the unforgettable experiences of Biokovo's natural beauty.

We had a lovely experience when touring Biokovo with Darjan, who shared great insights, history and background as we went up and down the pathway (which he, by the way, cleared very confidently). Aside from the beautiful views both at the Skywalk and Signal points, we got to taste some local wine and see some additional, hidden spots along the way. Before parting our ways at the return point, Darjan shared some tips and places to visit in the area for the remainder of our stay - very generous and kind guidance all the way.
