Full description
Take a stroll through the charming town of Brunswick, Maine on a 2-hour guided walking tour. Along the route, learn about Brunswick's first settlers, the iconic landmarks, and the town's historically famous residents. Named in honor of the House of Brunswick and its scion, King George I in 1739, this beautiful college town sits in Southern Maine with lots to offer to locals and visitors alike. Begin the tour at the Fort Andross building at the base of the falls, named after the former fort which provided the only refuge for the townspeople from the Wabanaki Native American Tribe.  Discover the history of the influx of the first Scottish and Irish, and later french Canadian, workers with the advent of the lumber, cotton and textile industries in the 1800s and view some of their homes. View many interesting homes in the area expanding Greek revival, Federalist, Gothic Revival, and classic shingle style by noted Portland architect, John Calvin Stevens.  Hear stories about the notable residents that made Brunswick what it is today, including Harriet Beecher Stowe, Nathaniel Hawthorn, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, plus many graduates of Bowdoin College. End the tour at the top of the hill at Bowdoin college with a tour of the historic and picturesque campus and the life and times of Maine’s most accomplished resident, Joshua Chamberlain.
