The Mahahual reef is the habitat to more than 65 species of stony corals, 350 species of molluscs and more than 500 species of fish. Many protected or endangered species find their refuge here, including sea turtles (green, hawksbill, loggerhead and leatherback ), the Caribbean manatee, the Moreleti crocodile, the elkhorn coral and the black coral. In any given dive it will be likely to meet turtles, moray eels, nurse sharks, rays, lithodidae, lobsters, barracudas, groupers and a wide range of Caribbean tropical fish: angel fish, butterfly fish, parrot fish, wrasses, cheetahs, damselfish, surgeonfish... swimming in schools, approaching full of curiosity or playing hide and seek among the coral gardens. Here in Mahahual/Costa Maya we have 5 different underwater landscapes and dive sites between 3 ranges of depths (most of them are between 45 to 90 feet). Diving conditions are friendly and we usually enjoy an average 90 feet visibility. All our dives are boat dives (time from the jetty: 10 to 15 minutes). Max DM/diver ratio is 1:5 and we make the Surface Interval (around 40 minutes) at our beautiful beach, Blue Kay. Upon arrival you'll fill the paperwork and check the gear. The staff will take it to the beach, once is checked by the diver and adive briefing will follow. Our diving staff is caring and ready to assist you, so you just need to tell them what you need. Plus, dives sites are chosen considering the participants' training level However, should you like to avoid the peer pressure, you could have your private DM (mind, in a shared boat and dive site) which would cost 30 usd extra per diver. It's important to know if cruise time and port time match. While some ships adjust their clocks to match the local time in port, others may keep the clocks in the time zone of the ship's departure port. If you are unsure what the local time is in port, please ask Guest Services on your ship.
