Depart and drive along the East Coast Road to Mahabalipuram which offers views of the Bay of Bengal, setting the mood for a rewarding day. Then explore Mahabalipuram, a coastal town known for its UNESCO World Heritage Site classification and ancient rock-cut structures. Visit Lord Shiva's Shore Temple and admire the intricately carved rock-cut sculptures, including Arjuna's Penance and Five Rathas, reflecting Hindu mythology and daily life.

Continues your journey to Pondicherry, a lovely coastal town known for its French colonial past and Tamil culture. First guide at Mahabalipuram was excellent 5 star. Driver also excellent throughout 5 star. Day spoilt by second guide we met in Pondicherry - rude man wanted to pack first 10 min viewing in despite my partner wanting the toilet. Then took us to a hotel for lunch, sat down with us and asked us to buy him lunch - we were stunned so went along with this and he proceeded to order the largest steak on the menu which we ended up paying for. He even asked the waitress for a cigarette (which would have been on our bill). He didn’t talk to us but was on his mobile constantly and we were waiting 10 mins more for him to finish his meal. He gave scant info at the rest of the trip and we returned early. Pity as the Mahabalipuram guide was enthusiastic and knowledgable and we really enjoyed that part. The driver knew of the 2nd guide problem and offered to take us to another site on the way back. The tour company apologised and has assured us they will not use the 2nd guide again.
