Rome

It’s easy to see why Rome is called the Eternal City: you can see remnants of the past all over the Italian capital. Ruins of the Roman Empire like the Roman Forum and Colosseum draw millions of visitors every year.

Rome is also home to the Vatican City, a tiny city-within-a-city serving as the earthly headquarters of the Catholic Church and residence of the Pope. Here, check out the spectacular St. Peter’s Basilica and the Sistine Chapel, home to Michelangelo’s priceless fresco, The Creation of Adam.

In Rome itself, take a walk up the Spanish Steps, or take a sip from one of the historic fountains dotting the city’s many piazzas. Of course, there’s also the world-famous italian cuisine: Pizza, pasta, wine, espresso, gelato… what more do you need?
