Full description
Enjoy an original dinner of opera and lyric song, sung by performing waiters at the stunning La Castafiore restaurant in the heart of Madrid. The restaurant opened in 1996 with the aim of promoting young artists and the traditional lyric form of operatic art. As you dine, the wait staff will entertain you with typical Spanish zarzuela, interacting with the audience as they go. The night starts with an overture of “Il Barbieri di Siviglia,” served with the traditional tapa of a Spanish omelet. The 1st act, “Die Zauberflöte,” is accompanied by marinated salmon rolls filled with baby broad beans in garlic sauce. For the 2nd act (main course), you can choose from grilled entrecote with herb butter,“La Boheme,” or hake with parsley, gulas (baby eels) and clams, “La Traviata.” The “plaudit” (dessert) is a divine milk mousse of “El Gato Montés.” At the end of the night, all diners are invited to toast “La Traviata!”

If you are like us and aren’t sure whether this is going to be your thing, make sure you book this night! The food alone is worth the price of admission. All the singers are fantastic, and the whole night is really entertaining. A massive highlight from our trip to Spain.

I really enjoyed the time spent there. There are three hours of good music, food and interaction with the staff (who is amazing). If you really like operetta (for any reasons they call it there "zarzuela") just go for this activity, which is a show combined with exquisite dinner. The singers, desguised in waiters, perform a selection of the best areas from well known operettas, moving around customers' tables.

Restaurante La Castafiore does not disappoint, although if you get there too early, you may wonder if you’re in the right place. They are setting-up. I found the food to be excellent, but obviously, the crew of singing servers is the real attraction. They are all wonderful people, and trained performers with amazing voices. A truly fun evening!
