What to Expect
Enjoy a jam-packed tour of Madrid that is a journey through its history, from the spot where the city was founded to the trendy, multicultural neighborhoods of today.

Start at the beginning, meeting your guide in Plaza Isabel II, right by the ornate façade of the Teatro Real (Opera House). Here, you will get an introduction to Madrid’s history, before wandering into the bohemian neighborhood of La Latina. This was the center of the 1st settlement of Madrid, and is now full of charming coffee shops and traditional restaurants.

Stumble upon the little gems of La Latina, such as a 17th-century garden, old inns transformed into chic hotels, and a square that was once used as a bullring. Next, cross an old gorge to reach the center of commerce in Madrid for centuries. Step back in time at an old convent, where you will taste some delicious sweets made by the nuns!

Continue to Lavapiés, Madrid’s multicultural neighborhood. Home to the original Madrileños (people of Madrid), the area is now a fusion of world cultures, with African restaurants rubbing shoulders with Asian shops and Indian cafés. Local traditions mix with what’s hot on the alternative art scene.

Visit a food market in Lavapiés to experience the local life first hand. Then, learn about the gypsy and flamenco culture of Madrid. Stop for another snack from one of the multicultural stores, and discuss issues surrounding immigration in the area.

For the perfect end to your tour, take a short ride on the Metro to one of the city’s most breathtaking spots. Enjoy panoramic views of the city, and discover why people wax lyrical about the “beautiful sky” of Madrid.
