Widely considered to have one of the world's finest collections of European art from the 12th to the early 20th century, the Prado Museum also boasts the single best collection of Spanish art in the world. Founded as a museum of paintings and sculptures in 1819, it was enlarged by the addition of short pavilions at the rear of the magnificent building between 1900 and 1960. See masterpieces by Francisco Goya, Hieronymus Bosch and Peter Paul Rubens, along with acclaimed paintings by El Greco, Titian and Diego Velázquez. Journey through the story of Spanish and European art through the centuries and get expert explanations along the way. Irene was fantastic, she spent time helping you understand the history of the the work, the technical construction and how to identify the symbolic references for the eras the various prices depicted. This was incredibly useful when visiting the Reina Sofia the next day as you could see the various influences from multiple artists on the works in both museums. Fantastic experience.

The curious thing about the incident was that until the last 15 minutes of the almost two hours of visit, nobody told us anything. At that moment, one of the guards caught our attention and without attending to the guide's excuses, he called a person in charge of the center, who told him to finish the visit at that moment for not following the protocol. After a rifi rafe, the person in charge yielded to our requests, as long as the group was divided in two, with which: double explanation and no time to see and fin

A Unique Must Do Experience

The Prado is unique in the world of art. This museum is so extensive with so many masterful works that signing up for an expert tour is well worth while for your first visit. Even my wife, who is an Art History major insisted on having a professional guide walk us through the museum on our first visit to make the best use of time. Well worth while. We plan to visit again.
