Full description
On this 5-hour tour from Madrid, you’ll begin with a visit to the Monastery of El Escorial. It was built under the reign of powerful King Philip II as a residence for Spanish kings, a monastery, and a royal pantheon. It became a symbol of the great power of the Spanish Empire at that time. The monument was declared to be of artistic and historic importance and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Valley of the Fallen was built in 1936, about 9 kilometers from Escorial, as a memorial to those who died during the Spanish Civil War.  Situated in a beautiful valley in the Guadarrama Mountains, this impressive work features a cross standing more than 150 meters high, as well as a basilica and crypt built into the hard rock under the mountain. The tour includes admission to the Valley as well as a visit to the basilica’s interior.

Organization needs improvement, too many people, booked in English, excursion bilingual (Spanish and English) only at El Escorial was the group divided and English was spoken in ours, headphones had to be replaced again and again because there was no contact with the guide

It is a destination that is good to do with a guide, since it gives you details that you could not know alone. It's only a half-day outing, so it gives you time to do something in the afternoon. You don't have time for lunch, so it's convenient to have a good breakfast.

Exceptional, given the huge size of the El Escorial Monastry and the number of historical items available to see - from the private quarters of Philip 11 to the burial monuments of Kings, Queens and their infant children. And then we were quickly driven to the Valley of the Dead and Basilica which was/is such a huge epitaph to the fallen dead of the Spanish Civil War. We were very impressed by the size of the sites and the your organization!
