Full description

Since it opened in 1819, the Prado Museum has acquired a dazzling array of paintings, sculptures, prints, drawings and decorative art that cover the history of Spanish art to form one of the finest collections of European art in the world. Based on the former Spanish Royal Collection, the Royal Museum would become known as the National Museum of Painting and Sculpture, and subsequently the Museo Nacional del Prado. The collection currently comprises around 7,600 paintings, 1,000 sculptures, 4,800 prints and 8,200 drawings, in addition to a large number of historic documents. With your full-day ticket, you will have access to more than 1,300 works currently on display in the main building. The size of this collection can cause headaches for visitors trying to choose what to see, but the Prado has organized 3 routes that focus on its masterpieces, dating from the Romanesque to the 19th century. Once inside, you can purchase an audio guide (not included in ticket cost) to quickly lead you to works by artists such as Bartolomé Bermejo, Pedro Berruguete, Sánchez Coello, El Greco, Ribera, Zurbarán, Murillo, Alonso Cano, Velázquez and Goya.

It really doesn’t matter when you travel to Madrid, high tourist season or low season, long lines in front of attractions are unavoidable. Therefore, it makes perfect sense to purchase the Prado Museum tickets online. I strongly recommendGetYour Guide for its customer-orientated service. What I enjoyed most of all was that I got regular mails from the company, reminding me of the visit a couple of days and hours prior to our time in the Museum. Actually, that’s the third time I have bought the tour with this company. And I am planning to use their services throughout my travels.

On the spot there were 3 columns. I took the left column thinking it was going around the building. In fact I waited 45 minutes to realize that it was not good. So I did the column again before entering the back of the museum. Your map is not representative. On the spot there is no clear indication for the name and the entry number. No clear indication in English or French. I wasted over an hour for nothing.

The collection of art is wonderful and the facilities are top notch. We only had a few hours but wished for more time. We rented audio guides which were very helpful and followed the “Prado in Two Hours” tour. This was a bit hard to navigate logistically but it did include many beautiful and significant works.
