Hop aboard an open top 4x4 vehicle for a day of sightseeing in scenic southeastern Madeira. Stop at one of the Caminhos Reais or Royal Roads which were built in the first decades of the 20th century to compensate for the lack of adequate connections by land between the various settlements on the island. Today these paths comprise a network of up to 400 km and have been partially restored in recognition of their beauty and natural charm. Take the iconic Royal Road number 23 to Santa Cruz and stop at the renowned Christ the King viewpoint along the way. Catch a panoramic view of the city of Santa Cruz before continuing on to Morena, admiring the valleys and terraced hillsides along the way. Reach Santo da Serra for a homemade apple cider tasting. Before returning to your hotel, pass through the small town of Água de Pena where you can see Machico Bay and Ponta de São Lourenço, the easternmost part of Madeira.

Did a lot of off-road driving - that was good! Have seen little except off-road piste damage! I was hoping for a better combination - as we have had before.

The guide (Nuno) was on time, very friendly and professional also extremely knowledgeable and attentive to the guests needs. He made the excursion extremely enjoyable. I would definitely recommend as trip out if you've got the time to spare
