Visit Madeira's rich green hillsides on this morning half-day tour. See native plants and trees, home to local birds and butterflies. Stroll along a Levada (aqueduct) through ancient forests and marvel at verdant valleys as chaffinch birds fly around you.
What to Expect
Experience the many shades of green habitat at Madeira's Mountainous UNESCO World Heritage Natural Site. You'll come up close and personal with the Madeira Blueberry, Geranium, and Laurel trees. These beautiful rich flora constitute the habitat of local birds such as the Trocaz Pigeon, Madeira Firecrest and Chaffinches.
The walk takes you along a levada for about 30 minutes to a stunning view point in the middle of the central massif of Madeira, over one of the deepest and most beautiful valleys of the Island. You will use the telescope to look for the Trocaz Pigeon while Chaffinches flit around you asking for food.
The ride back to Funchal takes a different route than the way up, allowing more time to marvel at the landscape then arriving in Funchal around 12:30. This tour combines easy walking with sightseeing and nature watching, a chance to enjoy birds, plants and butterflies.
