Full description
The tour begins with a pickup from your accommodation in Funchal and heads to the first stop of the day, the small fishing village of Câmara De Lobos. Located in a small creak, with a beach and a harbor, the village is surrounded by quintessential houses that pile up around the bay. From here, continue up the world’s second-largest sea cliff and admire the beautiful views of Camara de Lobos and Funchal. The next stop is Ribeira Brava, named after the wild stream that runs through it. Visit the village’s history-rich church that was built in the 16th century and learn about its Flemish influences and baptism fountain. Head towards Ponta Do Sol next, one of the sunniest spots on the island and home to a pretty little village nestled in the steep folds of the valley overhung with dense banana plants. Paul de Serra is the next stop of the day and weather permitting there’s an opportunity to walk along Madeiras biggest and highest plateau to marvel at the panoramic views over the valleys. Afterward, zigzag through the narrow village roads and head towards the fishing village of Porto Moniz. Walk along the promenade which stretches from the natural pools to the pier, and find a local seafood restaurant to dine at for lunch. There’s also time to visit the aquarium, housed by the fort of Sao Jaoa Batista, or swim in the volcanic pools. Onto the Sao Vicente on the north coast, to admire this charming little town with its picturesque streets, and immaculately white houses. Visit the 17th-century church here and a park with a selection of coastal plants native to Madeira. Towards the end of the tour travel through the forest to the Encumeada Pass, one of the most beautiful mountain spots of the region, where you can marvel at the view of the north and south coast from the top.

Our guide, Manuel, was excellent. He provided a very informative tour with just the right amount of information, pointing out landmarks, features and different plants, etc. We had plenty of time at the various stopping points - some just to take photos of the amazing views, others to wander around the town/village we were visiting. We would highly recommend this tour. It is an excellent way to see the western side of the island in the safe and knowledgeable hands of a local guide who is also a skilled driver, used to the roads in Madeira. You’ll be picked up and dropped off as close to where you are staying as possible so very little effort will be needed - sit back in the comfortable vehicle and enjoy!

A very nice tour, with some long stops. Seen many small villages along the coast, but didn't stop at some points, such as the waterfall which meets the road directly. At noon there is a long lunch break in Porto Moniz, where you can strengthen yourself. Then there was a stop and then unfortunately the tour was over. So deduction of one star due to not enough photo stops, otherwise a great tour to explore the island.

Madeira is a dreamlike island and always worth a visit. The highlights of the western part of the island are perfectly presented on this day trip. It doesn't get any better than that...keep it up! Of course, the whole thing stands or falls with the guide. Our Oscar is a natural talent and travel guide with body and soul. With passion he taught us to love his homeland. We'd love to come back, Oscar, to explore the eastern part of the island with you. Many thanks directly from AIDAnova
