Yeoville (3pm)-one of the most diverse suburbs in South Africa, known for being highly Afro-cosmopolitan with many African nationals found in one square mile and a rich history due to the migration into South Africa. Maboneng-(12pm & 5pm ) a new suburb in Johannesburg which is home to Art, Culture,graffiti and a variety of African foods The experience will offer guests the ability to try a variety of different African foods from - South African meals - Ghanaian - Nigerian - Cameroonian - Zimbabwean - Congolese Each food tasting will include at least 4 dishes we will be trying on the day. You can also include African beer tasting with your booking to enjoy the beers on the continent.

The experience will kick off with a brief tour of the Maboneng precinct. We guide you through some of our favorite spaces within the precinct while admiring some of the biggest public art and mural collections in the city. We cover most of the important art murals that have helped change the view and perspective of the city. We'll visit Arts on Main, the first development in the precinct which is the heart and soul of Maboneng where William Kendridge's studio is located, along with other artists who where the catalysts in attracting people to visit the precinct. We then visit the Kwa Mai Mai traditional healers market, the oldest healers market in Johannesburg. Discover its street food culture, which has attracted people from all walks of life who come to see Maboneng and try a bite. As we walk towards Access City, we'll see more art murals and visit one of our favorite rooftops, the famous Hallmark House rooftop, which is well known for its epic sunsets and city vibes. The experience will end with a delicious South African meal as we enjoy the vibrant creative energy of the neighborhood.

We meet at the local and popular Home of the Bean Coffee shop where guests can enjoy a delicious cup of coffee before the tour begins! From there, we head out into the streets of Maboneng and have a look at all of the wonderful Street Art found all across the precinct and talk about the meaning and artists behind some of the iconic murals! As we walk the streets, we also pop into some really memorable spaces - Angoni Art Gallery for local art - Hideout Bar at Curiocity Backpackers - an alleged hideout for Mandela and other activists during apartheid! - Collectors Treasury for its large collection of 2nd hand books (if open!) Maboneng is a culturally diverse neighbourhood with strong historical links to the mining industry of the past but also represents what life in the city could be like in the future! Take a walk with us as we uncover the hidden gems found in this wonderful neighbourhood and special place in the inner city of Johannesburg!

This tour begins in Gandhi Square, then uncover the city's gold mining history through Main Street, showcasing Johannesburg's stunning architecture. As we continue, we’ll discuss the city’s current condition and politics. Our tour continues to Ferreirasdorp, sometimes referred to as the "cradle of Johannesburg", where the first gold diggings started, and where the first diggers initially settled. Then Chancellor House, where Nelson Mandela and Oliver Tambo established their first black-owned law firm. We continue our walk to Newtown, one of the city’s creative neighbourhoods, visiting the Workers Museum, to gain insight into the city's Migrant labour history. Then Market theatre and it’s rich history of cultural, street art, galleries, and cultural spaces. this walk will lead us to the iconic Nelson Mandela Bridge for stunning views and a perfect photo opportunity, connecting us to the diverse neighbourhoods of Johannesburg. We'll conclude our tour in the area of Braamfontein, a new artistic hub known for its youthful energy that impact the rich culture of Johannesburg! Johannesburg has played a significant role in the history, culture, and demographics of modern South Africa. It has been one of the reasons for many conflicts in South African history, but it is also one of the reason for a diverse country we have today. Explore the City of Gold with a local guide and learn about the history and the current condition of Joburg. The tour will star at the Wing Republic, where you will get an overview of the tour and the history of the city. Walk from Braamfontein to Newtown and get a chance to see the famous Nelson Mandela bridge. Visit the Market theatre and Mary Fitzgerald square in Newtown and learn about the history of South African music and art. Walk to the Workers Compound and learn about the Labourers Immigration Laws of South Africa. And see our Science Discovery centre. Walk to Ferreira Market and visit the Chancellor’s House and learn about the life of Nelson Mandela and OR Tambo as attorneys. Get a chance to see the magistrate court. Walk on Main Street to Gandhi Square named after the famous Mahatma Gandhi, and learn about South Africa’s biggest industry. Visit the fifth tallest building in Africa, the Carlton Centre and visit the ABSA gallery, where they exhibit different art works done by artists from all over Africa. Walk to the last location, Maboneng, Johannesburg’s art world and see the local artists and their work. Have a local lunch End our tour at Home of the bean, a coffee shop where it is easy to get an Uber back.

This tour is all about learning and going deeper into the Graffiti and Street Art culture of the City! Guests will learn about the difference AND relationship between Graffiti and Street Art, while also getting a better idea of some of the city's most iconic Graffiti Writers/Artists and Street Artists! The tour starts in the colourful Braamfontein Precinct which is full of large and small Street Art murals all across it's walls - in this area, we learn a bit more about the impact of Street Art on the development of this area from 2003! While in Braamfontein, we make a stop at the local Graffiti Store where the local artists get all their supplies - it's also a great opportunity for you to engage with Graffiti beyond what you see on the walls i.e. guests can buy merchandise designed by local Graffiti Artists or step into the exhibition room when there's works on the walls etc.! From Braamfontein, we head over to Newtown which is the spiritual home of arts and culture in the inner city - with a history dating back to 1886, this area has always been a part of the city's underground movement and is rich in Graffiti with some of the city's best Graffiti found here! We end our tour in the vibrant Maboneng Precinct! Just like Braamfontein, Maboneng is blessed with a beautiful collection of Murals and Art all across its walls - from intricate works by international artists to the well known tags of local Graffiti Writers, this area is a hub of street culture in the inner city! Johannesburg is blessed with some amazing Street Art and Graffiti, this tour aims to give context to these wonderful works while celebrating one of the best parts about living in Johannesburg i.e. the vibrant and diverse street culture found all across its roads and pavements! The cultural diversity of Johannesburg is reflected in its arts and artists - from block to block, the city changes, creating a rich and exciting outdoor canvas for it's artists to share a bit of their world with us! *NOTE! MABONENG a seSotho word meaning a place of light, a fitting name for this district that has gone through rapid transformation over the last 2 decades. Meet your local guide at the popular trendy CURIOCITY Backpackers hostel before setting off on a knowledgeable insider tour of the precinct. Learn about the history & heritage of the first suburbs of Johannesburg. Get an in-depth insight into the street art murals painted by both local & international artists. Stop at iconic landmark buildings like The Cosmopolitan, one of the most elegant heritage buildings in downtown Johannesburg. Built in 1899, it was opened as a hotel and bar in 1902. If walls could speak, many many tales here! Venture over to the Drive-lines Development, a new urban development that uses upcycled shipping containers as affordable housing. From here you’ll walk over to the Mandela mural (remember the leader-boxer?). Walls create barriers & the public art breaks these barriers, marvel Nelson Makamo's murals in an open air museum. Stop for a visit at Arts On Main, home to South Africa's most celebrated artist William Kentridge, now also a home for his foundation -The Center For The Les Good Idea. Shop at the Kwa Mai-Mai Traditional Healers Market, said to be one of the oldest in the city. Here you’ll encounter Sangomas (traditional healers) and medicines as well as traditional clothing. Round off your shopping spree at The Collectors Treasure, the largest second-hand bookstore in the southern hemisphere.
