Lyngen Alps

The tour departs from the city center of Tromsø from where you will head out on a scenic 50-minute bus transfer to our camp in Breivikeidet. Upon arrival at our camp in Breivikeidet, situated in a picturesque valley close to the sea, you will be welcomed by our friendly staff. We will provide you with thermal suits, boots, hats and mittens before heading out on our dogsledding adventure. Your guide will go through the safety instructions and show you the basics of driving the sled. After listening carefully to the demonstration and a few minutes of practice, you will enjoy driving on the open fields and inside the forest trails with the mountains of the Lyngen Alps as your backdrop. Two people will share one sled: one as a driver and the other one as a passenger, and you will get the chance to swap places halfway through the tour. This will provide everyone with the opportunity to experience the life of a dog musher and to take all the photographs they want while being a passenger. After your dog sledding ride and arriving back at the camp, you are invited into our lavvu (indigenous Sami tent), where you can enjoy a hot drink and cake around the campfire. Once you changed back to your normal clothes, and waved one last goodbye to the huskies, it is time to board back the bus to Tromsø.

Meet reindeer and see a Sámi camp with this tour from Tromsø. Try reindeer sledding and enjoy a hearty Sámi lunch. Be picked up from the meeting point and take a scenic drive to the camp at Breivikeidet. Be greeted by your Sámi guide who will take you meet the reindeer that will take you on a sledding tour. Revel in the glory of the Lyngen Alps and the beautiful nature as you ride. Breathe in the crisp arctic air. Warm up with some tea, coffee, and Bithos (a traditional Sami dish that is served for finer meals like celebrations). After lunch, learn more about Sámi life, culture, and clothing. Then, we'll take you on a panoramic drive to Aurora Wonderland Basecamp. This scenic route includes a short ferry ride and stunning views of the Lyngen Alps. Upon arrival at the basecamp, you'll receive an expedition meal. Afterward, join an excursion on foot or snowshoes (if the weather allows), or stay at the basecamp, relaxing and enjoying the stunning view. In the evening, after a nice dinner, our northern lights guide will give you a summary of the forecast and a mini course in northern light photography; the guide can also help you with camera settings. After this, your lavvo will be warm, cozy, and ready for you. When you have received your lavvo, you can keep an eye on the sky from the lavvo's glass ceiling or wander around the base camp to see if the northern lights are dancing above. Learn about the Lyngen horse, a national breed, that has evolved under the unique natural conditions of the region for centuries. Embark on a tour perfect for adults and young riders with experience When you arrive at the farm, you will meet the whole herd of Lyngs horses. The herd consists of mares, foals and playful young horses. You will get to know the friendly Lyngs horses and connect with your assigned horse for the day. After this, you will bring your own horse back to the stable for grooming and saddling up, before going out horse riding. The guide will help you saddling up. After putting on riding helmet, it is time to get up on the horse. The guide will adjust the stirrup to the right length for you, so you can horse ride safely. Out of the stable, we horse ride along the quiet road, while you the feel the fresh and cold artic breeze in your face. You have the full sight of the amazing Grøtfjord and Lyngen Alps during the whole trip. If the conditions are right, we take the horses down to the beach. As we horse ride along, the guide tells about local history and events from the Second World War that happened right here were we are horse riding. The horse riding is approximately 60 minutes. Back at the stable, you take of the saddle, and thank your horse with a snack provided by the guide. For you, we have a warm drink and a taste of the local lefse.
