Abydos is one of the oldest cities of ancient Egypt, and also of the eighth Nome in Upper Egypt. It is located about 11 kilometers west of the Nile at latitude 26° 10' N, near the modern Egyptian towns of El Araba El Madfuna and El Balyana. In the ancient Egyptian language, the city was called Abdju.

Explore the archaeological sites of Dendera and learn all about the goddess Hathor in the Temple of Dendera. Admire archaeological ruins from ancient Egyptian dynasties in a complex just south-east of Dandera, Egypt.

It is one of the best-preserved temple complexes in all of Egypt. The area was used as the sixth Nome of Upper Egypt, south of Abydos. Discover ancient Egyptian history the way it was meant to be.

In general it was a nice and successful trip, but it was annoying that they tried to sell something at every opportunity, necklaces with amulets in the Luxor Temple, a trip to the banana island and once again a trip to the alabaster factory. The guide's knowledge was good, although he took it very lightly and put on more show than historical background. The French-speaking guide, on the other hand, was very enthusiastic about the sights, which I translated to my family. Also, our guide Abdul disappeared at times without announcing it, which of course raised questions. Luxor is worth a trip! But slowly it is really hackneyed to offer camels for us women, the third time I can no longer perceive the gentleman as serious.

Our judgment is twofold. Driving to Luxor and Excursions in Luxor. Let's start with the ride. As promised, we were picked up in the morning with a minibus that had 10 seats and driven to a police station. There we thought that we would change to a coach. Unfortunately that was not the case. So we drove about 4 hours each way, the bus wasn't designed for such long distances. It was uncomfortable and tiring. Zm trip. Our guide, Mohamed Crocodile, took great care of us in perfect German and provided us with lots of useful information. We have to admit that we sometimes exceeded the times that were available to us on site. Mohamed Crocodile was very understanding and patient with us. A small drop of bitterness remains. During the excursion a papyrus factory and an alabaster factory were visited. It would have been better to have had more time for the viewings instead of the sales stops.

Everything was great, Eslam accompanied us throughout the day and always made sure we were comfortable. We then had Sherry as our guide in Luxor, who explained everything very well and was able to answer every question. For the entrances we had to pay 650 EGP per person again. And again 200EGP if you want to do a second and longer boat trip on the Nile with fresh fruits to eat. We got back to the hotel on time. A day before the day trip we were contacted on WhatsApp and we were given all the necessary information such as the pick up time at the hotel. Thanks to Eslam and Sherry for the great and unforgettable day!
