You will be picked up from your hotel in Luxor for the 90-minute drive to Edfu. Pass through interesting Egyptian villages and towns, and soak up the atmosphere of the Nile Valley. Your first stop will be the town of Edfu on the West Bank of the Nile.
Take a tour of the Edfu Temple, dedicated to the falcon-headed god Horus, and considered the best preserved of all Egypt’s temples,. The dramatic temple dates from the reign of Cleopatra VII and was built of sandstone between 237 BCE and 57 BCE.
See the gigantic granite statue of the falcon god in the main courtyard, and the statues of gods and pharaohs at the entrance. Explore the inner sanctuary, and learn more about one of the most significant deities from Ancient Egypt.
Drive for approximately 1-hour to Kom Ombo Temple, to visit the unusual Double Temple dedicated to both the crocodile god Sobek, and to the god Horus. Located on the banks of the Nile, Kom Ombo was built during the Ptolemaic dynasty, with additions during the Roman period.
While much of the temple has been destroyed by earthquakes, the ruins are spectacular, and some of the 300 crocodile mummies discovered in the vicinity are displayed inside the temple.
