10. From Porto: Vila Nova de Gaia & Wine Cellar Tour w/ Tasting
Join us in crossing the iron Luis I bridge and exploring the southern bank of the Douro river, through the streets of Porto's underexplored sister city, Vila Nova de Gaia. There is much more to know and to see here besides the famous Port wine cellars. But, of course, you will also enter one of these cellars, to learn how this unique wine is produced and to taste two of its varieties, one white and one red. In this tour you will see all 6 bridges which connect Porto and Gaia, being able to take stunning pictures of them and of the colorful houses of Porto's Ribeira. Then, once you are in Gaia, you will know why the Monastery of Serra do Pilar is unique in the world, and how it was used to lay siege to Porto for over a year during the Portuguese Civil War. After enjoying some of the best views of Porto from Jardim do Morro, you will descend through Gaia's streets, discovering masterpieces of architecture and urban art, such as Half Rabbit, by Bordalo II, or the XVIII century church of Santa Marinha, by Nassoni. In the end, you will enter into a Port Wine cellar, discovering how this delicious wine is created in a guided tour inside the cellar, and ending the experience with a tasting of 2 Port wines.
