Try your hand at one of Laos' most popular traditional skills with a workshop to produce intricate woven designs of homespun cotton.
What to Expect
You can choose your level of complexity, add your own pattern, and create a handmade pattern for a unique memento of your visit. With a wide variety of classical designs to choose from, you can pick the look that stands out to you most. The sophistication of the pattern determines the level of skill it takes to weave, but your host is on hand to help you choose your difficulty level and try it out.
The weaving loom may look monstrously complex, but you can get the hang of it within minutes. A basic 27-inch (70-cm) cotton scarf with a simple pattern can be done in just a few hours, but don't be afraid to try a more intricate design. If you don't finish in time, you can arrange for your instructor to take over, and get the finished scarf delivered to your guest house within a day.
