Discover the real lives of locals in Laos with this two-day homestay tour. See some of the lesser-known sights and learn about ancient traditions.
What to Expect
Start your journey with a tuk tuk drive to a Khmu village close to Luang Prabang. After crossing the Mekong River by local ferry, continue along dirt roads. Along the way, see images of daily life: wooden houses, children playing, and people at their farming work. We will also visit Ban Chan village, where the technique of pottery making is worth learning. If you like, you can try making a small pot by yourself.
Next, drive to a Khmu family home to enjoy a local lunch served with traditional Laos dishes. The afternoon visit will be at an organic garden. Here, you have a chance to pick up some proper ingredients for dinner and learn about their names and their use in Laotian cuisine. You can join the host to prepare dinner if you want.
Thanks to the knowledgeable guide, you will understand more about Khmu people’s traditions before attending a Baci ceremony which is believed to bring good luck to the people.
Stay overnight at the local homestay, and on day two enjoy a traditional Laotian breakfast before returning to the banks of the Mekong River with a stop at Wat Long Khun. This used to serve as a royal retreat center for spiritual revitalization. Cross the majestic river again by local ferry and say goodbye to your host, before returning to Luang Prabang by tuk tuk.
