Full description
Established in the 11th century by William the Conqueror, Windsor Castle is the oldest and largest occupied castle in the world. It has been remodeled by a succession of kings and queens, including Henry II, Charles II, and George IV. Today The Queen spends most of her private weekends at Windsor Castle, which is also used regularly for ceremonial and state occasions. Your ticket provides admission to the Castle, including the magnificent State Apartments, which are furnished with some of the finest treasures from the royal collection. Among the masterpieces are paintings by Holbein, Rubens, and Van Dyck, as well as fine English and French furniture. During the winter months, the sumptuous private apartments created by George IV, known as the Semi-State Rooms, are added to the visitor route. Your admission also includes access to St. George's Chapel. This is one of the most beautiful ecclesiastical buildings in England, and is the final resting place for 10 monarchs, including Henry VIII and Charles I. There is a lot to see and do at Windsor Castle, so please allow enough time to make the most of your visit, which is likely to last between 2.5 and 3 hours. The Castle is at situated at the top of a steep hill, and the visitor route covers long distances, so comfortable shoes are advised.

Beautiful castle and lovely piece of history. Travelling to the castle is easy, there is a train that goes directly there via Waterloo station. Just make sure to have the full train ticket purchased as the Oyster card only goes up to certain zones. From the station it is about a 10 minute walk through Windsor town which itself I really beautiful. The castle itself was gorgeous and took us right back in time. The rooms and art work were all very well presented and the Castle offers audio guides and headsets for free to listen to information regarding every single room. A really nice few hours spent and a place for beautiful photos. There are no photos allowed in the castle itself but the outside is beautiful. We loved it and had a really great experience.

All the guides I spoke to were very helpful and knew so much about their areas of responsibility. The guides in St George's chapel were particularly knowledgeable. The state rooms, including those renovated after the fire, take one's breadth away. The cafe in the under-croft is a good place to rest and recover.

This was a great self guided tour. I was very happy to see as many rooms as we were able to see. Windsor is more beautiful than I had imagined and worth the drive from London. I was very excited that St George’s Chapel was also included in the ticket. The little town of Windsor was a very pleasant surprise and this whole tour was easily one of my favorite parts of my trip to England.
