Full description

Established in the 11th century by William the Conqueror, Windsor Castle is the oldest and largest occupied castle in the world. It has been remodeled by a succession of kings and queens, including Henry II, Charles II, and George IV. Your ticket provides admission to the Castle, including the magnificent State Apartments, which are furnished with some of the finest treasures from the royal collection.

Among the masterpieces are paintings by Holbein, Rubens, and Van Dyck, as well as fine English and French furniture. During the winter months, the sumptuous private apartments created by George IV, known as the Semi-State Rooms, are added to the visitor route. Your admission also includes access to St. George's Chapel (except on Sundays). This is one of the most beautiful ecclesiastical buildings in England, and is the final resting place for 10 monarchs, including Henry VIII and Charles I. There is a lot to see and do at Windsor Castle, so please allow enough time to make the most of your visit, which is likely to last between 2.5 and 3 hours. The Castle is situated at the top of a steep hill, and the visitor route covers long distances, so comfortable shoes are advised.

We arrived with vouchers which I had printed off but were also on the phone. At the visitors entrance we were able to go straight through, to exchange the vouchers for our actual tickets. Very little queuing. All of the staff so polite, almost reverent. Fantastic to see all the treasures in the castle and the humility of Queen Elizabeth II final resting place. A living castle, still a home and place of royal duty. A lovely day. The restaurant was also well managed, absolutely spotless.

Very worthwhile trip! Plan enough time at least 3-4 hours for Castle, Chapell and the nice town of Windsor itself. Easy arrival from Piccadilly Circus with GWR in about 30 minutes, payment by Oystercard is not possible, but at the GWR ticket counter you can get H&R tickets for 4 adults total £33 (group rate). Attention, do not confuse with Elizabeth Line, runs longer!)

I arrived earlier than my admission time, I was directed by the staff to a que for admission. It was well organized, changing from electronic to paper tickets and then allowed into castle grounds. It was then easy to wander around the grounds and the Royal apartments. The que to go into St George's Chappell was very long, due to the large amount of peoe wanting to see the Queens resting place and pay their respects, but it was worth the wait.
