Full description
Enjoy an intimate small group full-day tour of the West of England, departing London for a scenic drive to the famous stone circle of Stonehenge on Salisbury Plain. Drive a route less traveled for some off-the-beaten-path views of London, making a quick comfort stop as you travel through the scenic countryside of Southern England. Your driver/guide will provide a commentary as you head to the world's most famous prehistoric site, providing some background history so that you know something of what you will see once you arrive. Visit the new Stonehenge Visitor Center to enhance your knowledge of the mysterious site and trigger your imagination. Then, make your way through the rural green of Wiltshire, passing some wonderful old villages en route to the City of Bath. Upon arrival, you will be dropped off in the city center and provided with maps to explore at leisure. Find a café to savor a delicious Cornish Pasty or Sally Lunn bun, or try some of the legendary local cider. Go to the beautifully preserved Roman Baths, or marvel at Bath Abbey, one of the finest examples of Perpendicular Gothic architecture in the West of England. See the romantic Pulteney Bridge over the River Avon, one of only 4 bridges in the world with shops across its full span on both sides. There is an optional walking tour of the city center if you would like a guided tour, with plenty of time to explore on your own as well. Before leaving, drive to some of the highlights outside the city center, including the Georgian houses of Royal Crescent, one of Jane Austen's favorite homes, and sites associated with Charles Dickens’s time in the city. En route back to London, add a sense of adventure to your day when your driver/guide takes you to a secret location. The precise details of this will be determined on the day, but with so many historic sites along the way, 99% of guests have said they have loved this surprise!

My wife and I have only the highest ratings for our trip March 2, 2020, with the English Bus small group tour. Our guide Johny was a literal encyclopedia of information on everything from English history to the origins of Stonehenge to recent cultural events of the area. On top of the tremendous scope of his knowledge, he was personable and entertaining. The English Bus is a very comfortable Sprinter Van with all the comforts one could want while enjoying a small group relaxed atmosphere—as opposed to moving around in a large herd. Unlike many tours, the English Bus company allows food and beverages onboard so guests can snack while seeing the sights. We had multiple opportunities to get out and walk, and also to spend time away from the group if we wanted to do something a bit different than others in the group. When we are here again, we definitely will book another tour with the English Bus. Steven and Virginia Amstrup

What a great tour! We were with a small group of only 12. Our tour guide, Andrew, was a wealth of information and such a pleasure to spend the day with. He took care of everything and made sure each one of us had a wonderful time. It is a long day but the bus was comfortable and Andrew really made the time fly. Highly highly recommend this tour and The English Bus. Worth every penny... er pound!

I wanted to see Stonehenge but Bath and the secret site really rounded out the trip. I loved the small group, and the not quite typical tourist route to Stonehenge. Our guide Colin was very knowledgeable about the sites, London, and lots of other topics and had a great sense of humor. And to top it off, he matched the play list on the van ride to the places we visited on the tour.
