Southwark to Shoreditch Shakespeare Promenade

This immersive theatrical experience takes Shakespeare's London working life back to its roots. Led by professional actor guide, meeting Mansion House Station (Exit 1) on Garlick hill, down to the river via Queenhithe, crossing the Southwark bridge, to view the world renowned Globe theatre, then back across the Millennium bridge, we trace the story of the Globe Playhouse backwards to its birthplace in Shoreditch via key points in the history of the Elizabethan Renaissance Theatre. Through storytelling and performance the actor guide will recount the history of the first ever British Playhouse plus entertaining and appropriate Shakespearian speeches and quotes at key points on the walk, packed with history, literature, theatricality, comedy, tragedy, fact, fiction and drama. but also includes modern sights and sounds, cultural references, superb street art in Shoreditch, an exciting cut through the Barbican estate, crossing boundaries and genres on the way. The walking part of the tour is approximately two hours plus 20 minute break. Tour length may vary due to walking pace. The 20 minute rest and refreshment break is at the Barbican Arts Centre, home of the Royal Shakespeare Company, via Curtain Road, with the tour finishing in the heart of Shoreditch via the foundational sites of the first two Playhouse, The Curtain and The Theatre. Groups are small and exclusive up to six people only. Age suitability 16+ years.
