Anthony was fantastic, he turned out to be a bottomless chest of both entertaining historical anecdotes and hard facts across Classic Greek and Roman history, Sumerian civilisation, Japan, Middle East and far more. A number of meaningful insights, highly recommended for people who view the museum visit as a learning experience rather than pure entertainment.
As soon as we knew we would be in London on a father-daughter trip, we knew that we wanted to have a memorable and efficient time at the British Museum. We had heard how extensive and confusing it could be, taking up a full day (if not multiple) to see. We both also highly value knowing what we’re actually looking at and understanding its significance beyond just its age. That led us to a private guide, and we lucked out with Anthony Matthews, who made our 2-3 hours beyond special and fly by. He was very comfortable to be around and was personable as an individual, sharing his own passions and thoughts while answering our questions. He would take any question happily and loved engaging. He also knows the museum like the back of his hand and could personalize our tour if we wanted more of one section. Make sure that you take his meet time seriously, though, (as is only proper) to get off on the right foot and get in earlier. I would’ve been so distracted and lost without him. Thank you!
