Full description
The tour starts with a history of drinking and London, starting with the Romans. The tensions between beverages and their cultures is discovered and delved into as well as the evolution of the bar, from tavern, to alehouse, to gin palace, to pub. The rise of the coffeehouse and its importance and responses is learned - with references from the 17th Century. There are visits to numerous places which highlight the content of the tour: some of the best places in London to visit for a drink are visited, or listed for reference. The talk and tour is guided by a qualified guide and historian dressed as a Saxon Alemaker.
